Anyone got some favourite patches, or patching tips for the AE modular? I have a nasty habit falling into creating 'a subtractive voice', so OSC->FLT->VCA<-ENV , with LFO/ENV modulation into FLT, or PWM. (switch out OSC, for noise for drum type sounds) anyone got tips to move beyond this  this thread was partially inspire by a thread on the lines forum about 'shaking things up' in a modular. what do you like to do? good FM tips? ways to generate interesting sequences, given limited sequencing? anything really... that you've thought, wow, that's interesting. to kick off... one of my favs is modulating filter freq at audio rates... |

- Try patching two different square wave VCOs into the logic module. Then listen to the logic outputs, as you change the pitch of one or both VCOs (e.g. play a melody). You can also get fun stereo effects by patching the OR output to the left ear and the AND output to the right, for example. Play around with that - You can use a mixer as a CV sequencer: patch several clock divider or gate outputs into mixer inputs and use the “volume” knobs to set the CV level of each input. Patch the mixer output into a VCO's pitch input then for example. I generally like to use gate outputs with attenuators/mixers to play a slow base note melody while my 16STEP plays a faster melody on top. - Use VCAs to attenuate CV levels with other CV. E.g. patch an LFO into a VCA and control the VCA’s gain with an Envelope. The patch the VCA output into a filter cutoff or something. Now the LFO will only affect the cutoff when the envelope is active. This is why you can never have enough VCAs because you can spice up any CV modulation with them. |

A good one is using an external fast running arp (the sequencer should work as well) and then running the oscillator into the spring reverb fully wet (I've used 2 can't remember if I got it to work with 1) and there you have it a your own string machine and being modular you can make it as complex as you like (posted a video in the performance thread). A good module to get some interesting patching from is the switch. Most obvious you can use it for getting a stereo field but you can get crazy with it using audio rate modulation and cross patching all 3 of the switches. This module also works in reverse and you can plug 2 inputs and 1 output this is especially fun with audio rate modulation and using all 3 switches. Crazy ring mod/fm like sounds.
