holy crap dude.......now I have to give nols or funbun 's album one more listen so I can sleep. Actually not funbun 's cause he has killer spaceships...... has to be nols' p.s. I know I get pretty obsessed and excited but I think this is the best track I've heard. Absolutely awesome.

Thanks mate! I got pretty excited when I recorded it. The AE never ceases to surprise me, but this time I was really blown away by the pure evil that came out my headphones. Blackbox is churning out that mutating beat like a champ but it's the modular that opens the portal.

I lost the link but I came across this tech site that reviewed the AE modular and in the cons the reviewer mentioned, that it looked boring and sounded thin. Clearly anyone can be a gear reviewer nowadays.

I bet you were! Don't blame you either. Would be so cool to have a play with the blackbox but as you say its the modular that's the hero.

In all fairness the Blackbox is actually a really boring piece of kit. It gives you a handful of functionalities (sampling, sequencing) but it only inspires me because I can bend those functionalities to do the stuff I want. I can see how this box can easily churn out generic sample-based beat after sample-based beat without ever sounding adventurous or anything but that's samplers for you. Modular is waaaaaaay more interesting to me since you really DIY.

Boring and thin? Everyone is a critic.

I can understand when you're used to eurorack with all its flashy leds and screens that a starter rack might look a bit bland with its grey panels but a Buchla system does not look particularly exciting neither, nor does a doepfer system but it's the sounds that count. And AE provides plenty of those.
