I think the Module Reserve is a good idea and a feature I’ve missed from ModularGrid. At least for Eurorack, it has happened to me often that I don’t have all of my owned modules in cases, so having a separate place for those is nice. Although I guess I could simply make another rack with modules NOT in any real racks too.

Actually in Modulargrid you can just "store" modules outside of your rack, although you get pestered by the cat telling you to clean up. But personally one feature of MG that annoys me is that the modules are added directly to the rack wherever there is room, so I like that the modules are added to a buffer place before I put them in the rack. However that gives me an idea of combining both. Instead of choosing the module you want to add through a drop-down list, we could have an MG-style module list at the bottom of the page, and when you add the modules from there they arrive in your reserve.

I've made my rack and everything worked fine for me. Question though: is it possible to add the old modules? For exemple VCAs now have a switch DC/Audio the old version don't have the switch. Is it possible to add older version of modules who are now in another version? Or am I just blind and didn't saw the old version?
Would it be possible to keep a link of our rack? I mean, a link that we can share to discuss our racks idea, and so on?

I was using strips of paper, One cm per module (2cm for a 2 unit module etc), but this is much nicer. I tried saving the page but it didn't save my layout; do I need to do a screen grab instead - thought I'd ask before re-doing it! Very easy to use, good stuff. Thank you.

I did do a couple of snips and then put my rack together, which was lucky as I didn't find a way of saving it. Having said that, it is great to have a record of my three-row setup as it currently stands. It's not quite right, as I have one old style VCA and one new, and an old style MASTER, but this is pretty damn cool, so I'm not complaining.
I'm also impressed to see that it has filled in the gaping hole where I didn't buy enough blanks Time to fill this syetem up to the max, I think...

I like this idea, it seems to combine the best of both worlds. Thanks so much for your work on this Gaëtan!

I can add the old versions of the modules easily, but I will need the pictures for them, right now I only have what is currently on the website. I'm working on a way to save and recall your racks, stay tuned

I had the same problem with the old style VCA, I couldn't find a picture anywhere, and I even trawled the Internet for an old reference (including old website captures), but no luck. I was doing something far less impressive, I was just dragging and dropping into a graphics program to create a record.
This tool will already enable me to think about a proper plan for where everything could go. I just dropped everything new into the new rack as it was easier than loosening all of the existing modules in the original rack. I was just being lazy. This tool means that I can separate the thinking from the doing - always good, especially as I can feel futher expansion is coming
Thanks again, I appreciate the work.

This editor is really cool. Is it possible to use it on Android devices somehow? Tried it with a few browsers and html editors. The browsers didn't show graphics and the editors put them a little off screen. Also I couldn't get a module in the rack. I have seen some apps in the past which are just like a website so it could be easy to make a app with some kind of app maker software? I don't really know. Thanks, Bahm.

Racks can be saved as a file on your disk which can be loaded (and shared) afterwards. As a bonus, you can now load the 2 preset systems which are on the website now. I haven't had so much time to test it in depth so tell me if anything doesn't behave.
Noted for Android, I'll find something.

Hello Everyone, Gaëtan has given me permission to host his code under a "semi" official URL at grid.aemodular.comPlease note that the use of this website is at your own risk and that it is not an official website of tangible waves. I hope that this is useful for you and please keep posting your thoughts and any problems you may find.

Excellent resource and just in time for you to help people design their 5-row monsters at Superbooth.

It works much better now, thanks! A couple of issues persist, though:
1) The ability to save multiple builds doesn't seem to be implemented. "Save" only allows you to save "MyRack.json", and you don't have the ability to save separate .json files under multiple names.
2) A new issue (to me, at least) appears to be the rack suddenly expanding beyond the rack spec if too many large modules (such as the SEQ16) get put in the wrong place in a row. MG's protocol is to hold the row at its preferred length and drop the "offending" module into the next space of the proper width, and this would probably be the right implementation here. At present, the only fix possible when this happens seems to require deleting the overlength rack and redoing it.
3) Still holding out for that "cost tally" capability ala Dotcom's SynthInvent, with the ability to add not-in-rack accessories (patchcords, power supplies, etc) to this for a final tally. Also, allowing a text list like MG's "shopping list" option that can also be accessed by Tangible Waves for order quotes for users would be a good addition along with this.
Otherwise, this is awesome...I was able to cobble up a version of the 6-row x 20 mofo I'm aiming for with very little hassle. Nicely done!

This has been a great help thank you very much! Is it possible to get the "add preset" function to drop a new kit into the system? Adding one now replaces anything you have previously in there with the system. Again thanks, this is very much appreciated Gaëtan

Thanks for the feedback ! 1) The ability to save multiple builds doesn't seem to be implemented. "Save" only allows you to save "MyRack.json", and you don't have the ability to save separate .json files under multiple names. [/div] [/quote] Indeed the browser seems to trigger save rather than save as dialog. I'll check what I can do. In the meantime you can rename your rack by clicking "edit" (the interface is a bit awkward, I have to improve it). You can also rename the file once it is saved. Do you have a specific scenario that makes it happen so I can try it ? The algorithm to move modules around is giving me more difficulties than I thought to begin with. I will do a quick fix to make sure that at least the rack doesn't change in size, but I'll also work to refactor it, complete with unit tests. That would be a cool feature, but it won't be any time soon as it requires a lot of interaction with the web shop, and I'm not sure how much data is currently there anyway. I can add a simple "total cost" feature by simply adding the individual prices to my data but it's not my top priority at the moment, so we'll see. I'm working with careck to bring some actual user accounts and online storage at some point in the future.

Here's more or less what happened:
The topmost row in my build contains mostly SEQ16s. As I recall, I was trying to shift the position of one of these, but it accidentally "dropped" onto a space next to where I was aiming, which would've had it overlapping the SEQ16 to its right. Instead, what happened is that the SEQ16 I was moving disappeared and the 20x2 cab suddenly became a 24x2...which of course doesn't exist. AE Grid apparently doesn't "know" that the rack lengths values are not to be changed in the event that excess module spaces are "required", but that these must remain fixed and any overshoot on spaces has to go to the next available suitably-sized area (or, like on MG when you've done this, the module in question drops below the cab and pisses off the cat).

Hi Lugia, just saved my rack on the AE Modular domain, brilliant stuff, easy to use. Cracking effort. Will use to plan my next order when the new modules are released....

Gaetan,
I love this. It was a big help in figuring out space for things, and something to play with while I wait for my new toy to arrive.
I'd also love to be able to add custom DIY modules but not needed for this iteration of the design. Nice and simple and usable.
I'm not sure if this is a known issue but, if I load one of the ready-made synth setups, then add a new one, I can't delete it or move it up or down once other cases have been added.
Once I had moved all the modules over to the second case and saved the json file, the reloaded file did not reload th eemty one (which was what I wanted). This is with firefox on windows 10. I have not tried it on other platforms.
As it is, it's very useful.
cheers and thanks,
Rodney
