Hi, I would like to discovered the modular world, i know Tangibles Waves since his kickstarter and since i always keep my eyes on.. I am essentially now AnalogFour mk1 user and polyend medusa too.. i change a few of my hardware.. my 2 next dreams are to get an Octatrack and modular world so.. I was interesting by a starter rack 2.. but interesting by modules like grains / solina / ms20 and try to save money and space too.. so i am a noob in modular, i understand soustractive synthesis i think, but a few in a glow with some modules i think understand and in the same times be a few lost... and need your advice on my choice, if i don’t miss about something, or if good idea or stupid... i choose to get 16 modules and take option module mounting... i want to use my analog four for sequencing and i can have a korg sq-1 too.. so i was inspiring by rack 2 and do this ......  ![]() Choice of 16 Modules for my starter dream rack : MASTER 2OSC/D 2VCA 2ENV 2LFO MS20FILTER GRAINS SOLINA LOPAG (LowPass Gate) SAMPLE&HOLD SLEW EDGE MM-DIVIDER 4ATTMIX MIXER4-4 Mounting Option : Module Mounting (up to 16 modules) Wires : Patchwires Starter Set (10, 17, 25, 40 cm, 6 of each) Alimentation: Power Supply Adapter 9V 1.3A Midi cable : Midi Breakout Cable Case : AE modular case 1-Row 20x1 WIDE AE modular Bus Cable WIDE Blank Module: Blank Module 4U if i choose this rack it is because i have a few space for new modules like maybe Nyle filter, Logic, MultiFx ... Hi boooh, definitely a good selection of modules. I might also suggest to add either the SV or WASP filter as they work more for your "normal" patches. I found the MS20 to be almost a sound source in its own right, it does sound very special. Both the Algodrone and Solina offer a lot of modulation options so you might want to add another 2ENV (which can also work as an LFO) to drive those modulations. In the end there isn't a right or wrong, just see how you go with those modules and if you miss something just add it later! Have fun! |

With my system choice and if i would save a few more money, in a first time, what do you suggest me ?? i am thinking don’t take ms20 and slew/edge... cost me less in a first time..
another question.. when i am in shopping cart and selecting module mounting i have this :
« Some of the items in your cart have different fulfillment methods (shipping, digital delivery). You must purchase these items separately » an idea ? but not sure to selecting this, it seems not hard for mounting, maybe can i do it...

I have two points : One simple OSC has two cv outputs, I think having one is great to have at least two modulation sources for your main voice frequency (one for melody, one for audio rate frequency modulation). Plus it provides triangle waves. I personally would need more FX : I would at least add a delay, wich really improves the sound. I would consider the multi FX too (great choice of FXs, can get extreme, sounds nice, three parameters can be modulated), but it is more expensive. If you want to be cost effective, maybe the MM-DIV is not that much of a safe bet, since you don't have a lot of sequencing possibilities inside your system. |

when tou spoke about 1 osc is about why a 2osc/d, grain and a solina ?
for fx in a first time i prefer use some effect pedal i have reverb/delay, before maybe get fx..
yes maybe don’t need mm-divider don’t need percussion sound for that moment..
i am looking wiki about different modules.. not easy about choice, and my english is not enough good..

Actually I agree with Gaëtan. The Starter systems are a great way to begin your modular journey. And there are many people here on the forum that have made fantastic music with "only" those starter systems. Please go through the Performances section on the forum to see and hear what people have created with minimal setups. For instance blakmoth has made dozens of ambient videos on his instgram channel that feature mainly the system 1: www.instagram.com/lofi_afronaut/And handtapeloop has also made very interesting sound installations with a small system and tape loops and drums: www.youtube.com/channel/UCpil2CJp3SuhTw5DZ6ESMRQThere are many more artists here on the forum that deserve to be mentioned, and you will find them all in the Performances sub board. BTW, if you order a Starter System and a few extra modules in the same order, then Robert will install those modules for you at no extra cost. |

i just looking for a system more strong than the starter one, more lfo/envelope/oscillator/ sound source for more possibility and more space in rack for not really more money than rack one for sequencing with my a4 and get more sound or possibility like grain and string machine that can interesting me for my a4..

I don't have the MS-20 VCF (given that there's two MS-20 minis sitting to the immediate left of my AE, that's not an issue), but that SLEW/EDGE...it's way too useful. Not only can you use it as a plain old slew limiter, it's usable as a discriminator for detecting rising or falling voltage states and making use of those to create dependent voltage curves. And THAT is important, because once you start clocking it in different ways, you then have anything from an extra envelope generator to an LFO to, potentially, an oscillator if you clock the module at audio rates. It's sort of the "poor man's Universal Slope Generator" in the AE ecology. |

Thank you again ! So after reflexion i think go on a Starter Rack 2, and add Solina + Slew/Edge or .... save money and go on starter rack 1 with solina and slew/edge.. What do you think about this for a beginner noob in modular land  And, in the Starter rack 2 there is 2 x 1 lfo.. is there possibility to replace by 2 x lfo ? (space..) or is it better to have this 2 same modules.. ?? .... does the Solina and Slew/Edge will be automatically installed or not if i ordered ? thx |

If you can afford the Rack 2 then that would give you more options and more space to expand. And yes - if you order extra modules together in the same order with a Starter Rack then Robert will install those modules for you.

what about the 2 modules lfo ? actually is it 2lfo (= 1 module) or 2 x lfo (= 2 modules) ?
and what about the other modules ? is there will be update ? and is it new wires ?

Sorry, I don't know about the LFO, but you can add a message to your order and ask. I'm not sure if there are any updates planned for the other modules. You will definitely get the new wires!

Get the Starter 2. It has 2logic module. It adds a nice "organic" natural sort of randomness to most any patch. I think the Starter 2 is a better value per dollar, and you will have tons of room to expand over time without having to buy another case too soon. Yeah, like everyone else the SV and Wasp filter are good-old-get-it-done filters. Again those come with the Starter 2. I just added the MS20, but that was after using the SV and Wasp a lot. And buy the MULTIFX right away, budget permitting. don't forget to add the blank modules to your order I never bothered re-installing the blank modules when I laid out my starter 1 system many moons ago, unless your studio is pretty dusty it's not a problem. Think I did use my (battery) vacuum once last year. I've just filled my last space so until i start the next rack... |

I would recommend starting off with less, i.e. just the starter 2, and then you'll learn what you really need when you start using the system. The Solina etc can always be the next order - the more you order in one go the cheaper it makes the postage! I found more VCA, LFOs and EGs were needed quite quickly for what I wanted to do. |
