I recently saw HAND MUSIC's video where there were large coloured knobs over the pots. The links in the comments went to www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183196447589Which I bought but they're just a tiny bit too tight. I looked in the DIY guide but can't find what the exact diameter of the AE modular's pots are so I can buy the correct sized rotary knobs to fit over them. Can anyone help?

The shaft diameter is 6mm, the "super standard" pot shaft diameter. With the knobs there are frequently minor tolerances that cause either too loose or too tight sitting. But I have ordered a bunch of (visually) the same knobs that sit quite well on the AE pot shafts; as soon as they arrive I will offer them in the shop. They are black with red top.

I'd love to get a few larger control knobs for my system on some of the more 'playable' controls

Actually, I like the solution you see on some Chinese pedals as of late: neoprene shaft _rings._ See Sonicake's site here for a few examples.: www.sonicake.com/
These would work...plus, you could easily add these to knobs that see a lot of action, such as VCF cutoffs, etc and they'd provide a nice, grippy feel in addition to building up the size _and_ making these knobs more visually obvious on the panel.

I’ve thought about this before — some neoprene (or whatever) hose with a 6mm inside diameter, cut to length would probably make lots of ‘knobs’ per metre

That tubing idea is pretty cool actually. Would also love to figure out how to get an LED in there, but I don’t think that would be possible for a modification 😋

i promised someone here ( sorry i can’t remember who! ) i’d take a picture using some colour coded knobs i got from Thonk that fit the AE nicely.. they do seem to give a little more detail to turning .. or at least it feels like it to me , i only got small fingers though! i was pleased to be able to replicate the MI knobs colour scheme on the Topograf

Now these are the best looking that I’ve seen! I could see better precision as the diameter increases, that’s just a physics thing! Hehe

Hehe This is the second "favourite" I had; but I received some samples and had the problem that they don't sit tight enough on the shaft. But in a few days I will have another type in my shop, that are a little bit bigger bit don't cover the labelling of the faceplate, because they don't reach fully to the surface of the faceplate. The ones that blackhairrolledindriedblood has shown in his picture above, but in red.

Hi Robert.. i wonder if they changed them?? because mine fit super tight onto the Ae shafts .. so much so that i have had difficulty getting them off again with one or two!! i like the colour range i originally bought them to test out the ‘upsidedown’ top row modules idea .. ie: to change the pointer detent when the module is upside down.. but i haven’t solved the faceplate labeling thing yet !

one of the other reasons i like them is that they are the exact same ones that are used on my old Midiman mixers !!

mine fit super tight onto the Ae shafts .. so much so that i have had difficulty getting them off again with one or two!! Get some lithium grease. Just a little touch on the shaft before the knob goes on (wow, that sounds vaguely suggestive!), and things work MUCH nicer!

There are different manufacturers in the meantime so there are differences... they have a very fine pattern of teeth inside at the tip but it is more like 32 or 36 .. it doesn't restrict as to what angle you can put the DOT at. it just seems to assist with the ‘grip’

The ones I uses have a sort of cross with curved ends. they hold on very tight and I would need quite a lot of force to take them off.

Just wanted to add my few penn'orth as to what I've done based on posts here. I chose to use blackhairrolledindriedblood's example. I bought those nice cheap white-capped knobs: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077GMSG11/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1But I also plumped for the red-capped ones as well. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077GMPSF7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1As Robert rightly says about these, though they look almost exactly the same (and they do in situ), they have a slightly different diameter, so that the white ones pop straight on the AE pots, but the red ones don't. All I did was get a suitable drill bit and gently scratched away enough material until they fit. I just did this by hand, no drill or anything (and bear in mind I'm disabled and my grip is pretty poor), so to anyone perhaps thinking about buying these, yes, it is that easy to get them to fit. Hope this helps.

Do you have a SEQ16? I wonder what those knobs look like on it. The pots are quite close together on the SEQ16

It's a temporary color scheme. I wil replace later the violet knobs by blue knobs; yellow-mustard knobs and sky-blue knobs remain in place.

i don’t have one... looks lovely on Jihel ‘s seq16 though,, in a strange cosmic coincidence i had exactly 9 knobs left and namke ‘s new wonkystuff MM33 has very indistinct idents... as he says , mostly it’s best to twiddle a matrix mixer by ‘ear’ ,, but i felt i needed to know which knobs are ‘zeroed’ ,,, golddarn that macular degeneration!! here’s the SHINY!
