In the early years of my using house insurance (discussing the UK here) My music making gear was covered in a contents policy. Due to a few changes of circumstances by accident I found out our current insurance policy doesn't include my gear, so it hadn't been insured for 2 or 3 years! I don't gig so didn't need musician's insurance. It took a little bit of digging on the internet, but found an insurer who would cover my studio - replacement value - as things are. This cost me just over £100 which I feel is well worth it for the peace of mind - I couldn't replace my MPC1 at present if anything happened.. Obviously your cost depends on your circumstances, value of gear etc, but the big reason for starting this thread is don't be frightened to ask your insurance company questions, and make sure you have the cover you need otherwise it is pointless paying the premium. As part of this also, never just accept the renewal quote - at least check it's in the right ballpark. My studio insurance was more than paid for by my house insurance going down nearly 50% this year by shopping around....

This is definitely something I need to investigate — in the past when I looked at instrument insurance it was very complicated; maybe things are better now? I’d be interested in knowing who you have used for the studio insurance (via dm is fine if there are details you don’t want made public!!)
Thanks for starting the thread 🙂

Thanks for starting the thread 🙂 It was pretty easy, no worse than any other insurance. Most seem to be musician's insurance - cover for gigs, personal liability etc. It did take a little hunting to find just studio insurance. I used T&R Direct in the end, had to ring them as online application wasn't working. They were very helpful, and sorted quickly. They were also the cheapest but think this was mostly because I could remove things I didn't need from the cover.

On the complicated side, one place I didn't try as you had to list every piece of gear worth over £100 individually - I have a full studio so didn't bother!
