Its great to be able to use AEM with other synth , just using simple patch wires..
there seems really to be only 1 golden rule!
you need to find a common ground between the AEM and your other synth, if you don't you'll get either noise, or other odd issues.
fortunately this is quite simple.
what I generally do, is connect one mono audio cable or a cv cable from the master module to the other synth.
this provides the ground, and also a useful connection
then you are set for direct pathing with the patch wires.
first I tried was the Bastl Kastl, you can send both audio and cv both ways.
whats great is the Kastl sound great but has no envelope, so its a constant drone, but with AEM you can just make it a complex oscillator
Mescaline, I got much later... bit more complex, but basically 3 parts, each have a different bit of fun with AEM
Channel
this is basically a kind of synth, with lpg and some fx (reverb, pitch shift etc). synth I mainly use as a drone as the lpg is really slow.
all this can be used directly by aem, so use a a drone/oscillator or for extra fx.
(you cant use the touch pads unfortunately, as they are directly tied to the internal oscillator pitch)
Motion
an 'odd' sequencer for trig and cv, and also an LFO, all work fine with AEM.
( though I find it hard to tune the sequencer for AEM oscillators)
Mental
odd thing
out of the box, it basically provides percussive sounds, usually triggered from motion (cant remember if I tried from aem yet!)
if you have eurorack it has a few CV converters which can be used by AEM.
also the 4 pots can also be used as attenuators for AEM. (setup as a voltage divider, so gnd one side , signal other, middle = attenuated signal)
finally a tiny patch board, which again you could use for AEM, just keep it 5v.
its easy to build a small oscillator on here, either for lfo or sound.
another fun one is multiplexer, to build a kind of switch).
or just use it as a kind of multi.
(the only issue is its so small, so only good for small experiments)
but we can talk more about this in the DIY section...
Ive now put the Mescaline in the eurorack case (it was initially standalone), so will be sitting right next to my new AEM eurorack adapter, so that's going to make it even easier to cross patch, which im looking forward too.
