I have a video effects app but i don't have a sound card Just use the analog audio inputs on the machine. In truth, most of the recent on-motherboard audio in machines over the past ten-ish years has been at least as good as the inputs on a large percentage of DAW hardware from around 2000. And there were plenty of releases from back then to show that the hardware was quite capable.

If he’s on a laptop, that could be an issue. Newer MacBooks for instance don’t have stereo inputs!

If he’s on a laptop, that could be an issue. Newer MacBooks for instance don’t have stereo inputs! Y'know...I used to use Macintosh pretty much exclusively in my studio back in the day (the NeXTStation doesn't count!), but they started losing me when they lost the NuBus support, which negated any further work with my Digisound system unless I was willing to work on a "plateaued" machine. And since I was really feeling the pinch of the lower speeds, etc, I finally went over to PC...and haven't looked back. Amusingly, the Antelope Orion32 I use for conversion these days actually cost me HALF of what that Digidesign STII system cost way back when...and offers 16 times the amount of I/O!
But the other reason I backed away from Macs for good was my ability to concur with an article in TapeOp about the issues that are popping up with professional Mac users vs. crap in the OS that can't be controlled by the user, therefore robbing CPU cycles and thruput while working in a DAW. Not good. See here: tapeop.com/columns/end-rant/115/ Given how intensive I like to get on processing (in and out of the box), and how some VSTs can be CPU pigs, I went with a 16-core dual Xeon HP Z620 machine for the multitrack, and a 6-core Xeon from the same line (the Z420, appropriately) for the mixdown machine, all running Win10 Pro...and I'm a happy camper.

Not to hijack the thread, but I agree, Apple has become bloatware. My desktop is a self-built Linux machine. I’ve been full Linux for nearly 5 years now?
