I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so I chose here. Last night I set up my AE Modular and I played a very ambient track - well, my definition of Ambient, anyway. More early 70's Klaus Schulze (think "Cyborg"). The modular is doing all of the sound FX and background sounds (using both outputs and some cross-fading, all fed into my pedal farm) and I used an old-style organ sound for some meandering interest and a bit of FM for the bells. The main thing that I learnt from my experiment was just how much fun the modular is, and is going to be - especially the sequencer. The track is here: sovietspacedogproject.bandcamp.com/album/ice-on-marsIt's called "Ice on Mars", simply because I'm reading The Martian at the moment, my naming method is usually as simple as that. I love it. Very atmospheric and musical. There is also so much going on, which I really like in music. It invites you to sit and listen and explore all the different sounds. I'm also a fan of the Berlin School (and not just because I'm from Berlin  ) and have started listening to electronic music in the mid 80's with Klaus Schulze's Timewind, Tangerine Dream, etc. "Poland" by TD is still my favourite album of all time! |

Thanks for the comments, and I can see that quite a few people have visited the page from here (and quite a number have downloaded the track). Apologies for not replying sooner, real life got in the way somewhat. I do hope to spend a bit more time with the modular with the holiday season coming up.
With regard to my workflow, I feel somewhat embarrassed to say that for what I did on that track it was a lot of experimentation - my main aim was to use the Sequencer and the Trigger Sequencer in different bar lengths, added to that I combined the LFO (working as a clock) with the triggers via the Logic module. All of that was modulating both the pitch of the VCO and the two Wasp Filters (out of sync with each other, again creating interesting patterns). In addition, I used the Noise module through the Nyle filter, which was modulated via the same sources (those multiples are so useful).
Of course, I didn't think to make a record of anything, I just pulled the leads out and got to re-patching for the next experiment once I'd made the recording. Over the top of the wash was some heavily effected Arturia MicroBrute sounds, using my pedal farm. All of it going through direct to Reaper, where it was tidied up. The whole thing was very quick. I try not to agonise over the music, rather I like to be in the moment and if I think that I would listen to it again then it goes up onto Bandcamp for free.
I will think a bit more about what I'm doing for any future pieces, not least because it's really great fun.

I've been a victim of my own success (!!!)... Bandcamp allows 200 free downloads per month, which up until now hasn't been an issue. However, over the last week, I've used up all but four of my download allowance, which has to last until nearly the end of January. Once they're gone, I have the option of paying for he privilege of allowing free downloads, or I have to charge. As I do this for fun, I will put a nominal charge on the downloads - this does have the advantage that you can add it to your Bandcamp account. Some of you have bought the albums and I thank you very much, although it was never my intention to use this forum for marketing, only to share my sounds for free. I will flush out my two Soundcloud accounts (currently both full up) and start to use those for more experimental/AE Modular specific items. That has better "free" capacity. So, the bottom line is that where I have said items are free, they won't be for long, I'm afraid. So, if you would like to download some albums, you will have to be quick. As there are 12 there, and only four free downloads left, they won't last long. The last one "Beyond Pluto" has the most AE Modular on it, followed by "Ice on Mars". [Copying to both threads]

Those four disappeared almost immediately and then I had to lower the auto-pricing down from £7 to something far more reasonable.
