I have tried it yesterday and I have a question about the FX send/returns. The return jack is stereo, but when I plug a mono cable, the effect is only on the left channel. Is it normal, and is there a way to change that ? A lot of outboard effects are mono only. I can probably work around this by plugging the return into one of the MASTER inputs, and then using a mult, but it's a bit clumsy.

It would be really cool if someone made a cable that takes one mono input and duplicates it into a stereo output. Alas I have never seen a cable like this.

It's 4U just like SEQ16.

Does the return amplify signals at all, so they are AE levels?

Does the return amplify signals at all, so they are AE levels? To my knowledge there's no amplification on the returns.

Thanks for the info folks - I'm not sure it will be too much an issue for me though I was wondering if I might be able to switch out my 2amp and use the mix console instead. My only real gripe with the mix console is that it doesn't feature a headphone out, unless I'm mistaken?

Look for headphone splitter cables, like this: Even if they’re stereo, you can used them with mono signals/cables just the same. Depending on how the MIXCONSOLE is wired internally, you could also try to patch the “FX Ret L” output to the “FX Re R” output

I got the Mixconsole - not only because you can never seemingly have enough mixers in your case but - because I wanted to experiment with some external diy effects pedals I had built over the years. So having followed this thread with interest I wanted to find a solution to the mono fx send to stereo fx return conundrum and this is what I found and it seems to work fine. TISINO 6.3mm Jack TS Mono to 3.5mm TRS Mini Stereo Jack Interconnect Cable (Mono to Stereo)- 1m
It may not be the most sophisticated gear but hooking up a Pete Cornish G2 distortion clone and a Schaller Tremolo clone as an initial foray was actually pretty cool. I must find that Gristleiser kit I built before discovering the wonderful world of AE Modular.

I use very similar cables (another brand) to connect my I/O to my mixing desk, they do the job just fine!

I've got so many outs on my AEM set up that it's really easy just to send them to my mixer and do panning and effects there. However that said, I do find mixers tend to brittle-ise the sound a bit.
When comparing the mixes of AEM stuff done through the mixer with stuff recorded straight out of the rack, the pure AEM sound is much sweeter. Does anyone else prefer the sound of native AEM to their AEM->mixer output?
