Anyone know the name or better yet a UK supplier for the new style cable connectors? I fancy making some cables myself but can only find the standard dupont type male crimp connectors- I want something nice and round like the ones Robert sells. Ideas?

As far as I know, Robert has those manufactured for him at his supplier in China.

Initially, I was pointed to this kind of connectors by an AE user ( Moritz, praise you until the end of my days!!); they are used in RC airplanes/helicopters and can be found by searching for "0,8mm gold connectors". There are male and female ones, mostly sold in pairs. E.g. here: hobbyking.com/en_us/0-8mm-gold-connectors-12-pairs-24pc.html?___store=en_us or here: yuki-model.de/yuki-model-gold-connector-0-8mm-10-plugsI did a lot of research to find the manufacturer, but this was difficult, and also, the pins were a little short for our sockets. So I decided for a custom manufacturing, which I do since then. If you have a problem to get them, please PM me; I can help out if you don't need quantities, because I still have some here from the development phase.

Took a punt on a couple of different connectors, one seems to work pretty well. Not as nice as Roberts but they'll do me for now...

These look nice - are there any special requirements for the wire itself? Could be a nice way to throw together extra cables in a pinch, or custom lengths/colours.

Who is the supplier for this one which worked well? . Apologies for the late reply - in the end I just used 2.54 dupont males pins, soldering down to the end of each pin for fill. I've had to reflow a couple of the initial run as they were catching inside, so you have to be careful with first tests. Disclaimer: I feel like I read some time back these shouldn't be used but I've found them fine and can repair any socket headers if I damaged any. At your own risk I guess.

So I had one of those idea things earlier...
I split out some cables from a standard Dupont connecter ribbon cable, removed the plastic housings, solder filled the tips (as I did on the longer ones I've been using above), heat shrinked the tips and did a file of any that didn't feel smooth to touch... 40 new cables!
Tips aren't as nice as Roberts but ultimately cost me less than a fiver and a couple of hours work. I'll post a pic later and report back after some extended use.

There you go - there's a few of Roberts in there too for comparison.

Yeah on the longer ones, but on the shorter I've just stuck to standard Dupont connecter length - I could use shorter ones (I still have some spare pins) but I find them really fussy to store/hang. Managed to get my cable making time right down by soldering with the heatshrink in place! Remove plastic, squash connector upper, add heatshrink, solder... done! (Unless there's a burr!) Should reiterate they're not as nice as Roberts but I'm happy enough for now and have saved enough cash to potentially order the sample player!

I've bought some 0.75mm copper ferrules to try as well, my thinking being I might be able to solder wire ends directly into them. I'll update when they arrive...

0.5mm also too big - smallest size they do. Shame as would have been perfect.
