Hi all!
After a few months of selling my first two DIY module kits for AE Modular, I must first of all say how thankful I am to the fantastic community! The help I got on the forum, the support everywhere online, seeing my modules show up in other peoples rack.. It feels really great to be a part of all of this So thank you to everyone here, thank you to everyone who supported me by buying a kit or some of my music, but also thank you to everyone else that makes this small internet community such a nice place. Love you all! And of course an extra thanks to Robert, Carsten & John (namke) who helped me along the way taking my first babysteps in synth-gear-land.
I thought it was time for an update regarding the coming months, as I have been teasing a lot of different/new stuff and up and coming modules. As I do this all in my spare time for fun, there are periods when I do marathon-sessions of testing & designing, but also weeks in which i don't have the time/energy. Last month I've been busy with a few music projects (making music for a podcast! Making music for an art exhibition! More on all of that soon). This meant having less time for working on finishing some modules, but I'll surely find more time in june & july to bring some long promised modules. So this is what you can expect:
Three close-to-finish modules:
- "Kurt's Dead Band", assembled module
While I love soldering and DIY'ing, I understand that it is of course not everyones cup of tea. I hope to offer assembled versions of my Dead Band in the very near future. A first prototype had an annoying mistake however, so I need to redesign the PCB to make it work properly. However, I hope to get a finished version in the next months.
- "Kurt's Five Steps", assembled
This module has functioned perfectly on the breadboard, and the first prototype worked 90% on pcb. However, I did a redesign of the circuit that simplified it quite a lot component-wise, meaning a lower price and less soldering, but it also means that I have to completely overhaul the PCB layout. So this will take a bit more time than I hoped, but I hope to have a new prototype by the end of the month. If it works, then I will be going on to sell this module assembled.
- "Kurt's Quad Boost", assembled and extended edition.
I have been thinking a lot about this one. I love to make an assembled version of the quad boost to, but I feel like I could make a better module out of it with some extra work. Maybe throwing in some switches to swap between soft/hard clipping? So I have some ideas about it, but still need to work on any of those. If there is a lot of interest, maybe I could just start with the basic, ready-to-go current version first.
Two modules that work on the breadboard, but I still have to finish the schematic & pcb:
- "AE Sloths"
I made an AE adaptation of the famous "Sloth" eurorack module from Nonlinear circuits. Its a very fun module, and the (supernice) guy behind NLC gave me permission to build an AE adaptation. Still got some work to do with tweaking parameters etc, but hopefully this will be in AE land by the end of the year!
- "555 VCO"
This is an AE adaptation of the 555VCO by Thomas Henry, a pretty legendary DIY VCO. I put a lot of effort & learned a TON by adapting his circuit to AE Modular. However, as it is a VCO, there is tracking involved, and that makes everything rather complicated.. I can make it track nicely in my living room, but its hard to test temperature dependency, and it would also involve a rather tedious amount of calibrating trim pots at home to make it work smoothly. So still thinking about how I'm going to exactly release this one. I don't want anyone to feel duped when using this VCO!
So to round it up: I had some really productive months earlier this year, things have slowed down a bit last month due to work & music related stuff. However, you can still expect to see some new Keurslager stuff popping up this summer!
Thanks for the support, thanks for reading & cheers!
