Hello everyone! Exactly on this day, the 24th of July 2018 was the day the forum went public and the first members signed in! I have to say, that I'm still in awe of this amazing community (that's all of you!) and what we have accomplished over this relatively short time! We've helped countless people with their small and large questions, ... we've supported each other and celebrated our creativity, ... we managed not one, but TWO community albums which supported a worthwhile charitable cause, ... we formed friendships and bonds that reached across continents, ... we gave each other tips and tricks and helped with DIY designs and ideas, ... we supported new businesses that made their foray into this new modular format, ... and of course we supported Robert and his team in Murnau as they work hard to assemble and ship out the stuff we love! To everyone who has been helping, active or not so active, THANK YOU! This forum wouldn't exist without you! I'm always a bit wary about special thanks in fear I might forget someone, but here it goes: Thanks to thetechnobear and NightMachines for being the first to join the forum and to be my trusted co-moderators for such a long time! Thanks to Gaëtan for his initiative and ongoing support of the Grid. Big thanks to spacedog, Lugia, namke and rockysmalls for sharing your old school wisdom with all of us! Thank you slowscape for setting up the Discord server and opening up a new, more interactive way for our community to engage. Special thanks to pol and everyone else for helping me with the Wikiand slowly chipping away at the missing module documentations! Of course huge thanks to robertlanger without whom neither this awesome synth format, nor this forum and its community would exist! Oh, and thanks for paying for the hosting, too!! And thank you to all the wonderful and amazing artists who have posted countless tracks, patches, experiments and soundscapes to the Performances section, you are really the main stars of this show! Never stop patching! And thank you to everyone who I should have thanked and forgot or not included in this list ere it be a mile long! I hope you'll forgive me! BUT now to you ... yes you! I would be very grateful if you could answer a few questions below: What is your favourite thing about this forum? How did you find out about it?What would you like to see in the future? How can we improve the forum?

first of all, happy birthday i find the forum software a bit cumbersome and clunky. i am part of multiple forums, and managing threads there, latest/new ones, is just one click away. also, here, one is not able to “follow” a specific thread so i see some room for improvement kind regards edit: for example, software i find more user friendly is: www.discourse.org/

What is your favourite thing about this forum?
The respectful, helpful community that is going on here, with a good encouraging helpful support on DIY. I have seen other forums...
How did you find out about it?
I think through google when looking for info on this new affordable modular system. The forum along with some youtube/vimeo videos pulled me over to shell out money for my first starter rack.
What would you like to see in the future?
A new community album, some collab pieces would be nice as well.
How can we improve the forum?
I have to agree with sc3sc3; it's easy to miss some interesting threads that are going on. Sometimes I'll stumble on some thread by accident wondering how come I missed this the first time around. But this is just a minor issue, the useful content found on the forum and the wiki pages makes up for this, plenty.

Happy third birthday everyone! 🎉🎈
Always grateful to be part of such a great community, I love the AE system and speaking to so many friendly, like-minded people!
I'll answer the questions after when I've got a bit more time!
EDIT: answers!
What is your favourite thing about this forum?
I think it has to be how friendly everyone is! It really seems everyone is on the same wavelength with the system, it's so rare to find an internet community this supportive and welcoming. It's definitely made my foray into modular infinitely more enjoyable, and it's so great to hear what other people do with very similar sets of modules.
How did you find out about it?
The forum, or AE? I found AE due to an Instagram comment somebody made on a post about the Teenage Engineering modular. I'd never heard of AE before, and in all honesty the way I approach making music hasn't been the same since! The forum was the first thing I found googling the system.
What would you like to see in the future?
For AE - MORE MODULES! 😍 But for the forum there's not much - just more of the same!
How can we improve the forum?
I don't think I have any qualms at all, I think it all seems great! Maybe more things like patch challenges and collaborative efforts? Just an idea of course!

Happy birthday forum!
What is your favourite thing about this forum? First of all, it's amazing to realise I've been here for so long, it feels like it was yesterday. As they said, time past faster when in good company.
How did you find out about it? I do not know... But I think I was searching for more infos on the website and saw a forum section. Seeing there wasn't much people in here at that time I decided to join, I'm not a big crowd guy, and much prefer small group of people, so I came in What would you like to see in the future? Quite frankly I do not know, every thing is quiet fine here for me. Maybe the return of Patch challegnes? It was a nice idea but maybe a bit hidden in the forum's sub section and now as there are a lot of new active people on here, we'll get more great ideas and music/sounds/creation/... I might try in invest myself more into music creation myself.
How can we improve the future? I use the forum on my computer and very very rarely on my cellphone, here it look great to me.

Hello everyone! What is your favourite thing about this forum? How did you find out about it?What would you like to see in the future? How can we improve the forum?Happy birthday 🥳. Favourite things: the community and its great info that are shared. Found it from Tangible Waves website before my first order. Some kind of gathering if it ever start to get possible. Such on the side of some other music related shows (Namm, musikmesse or whatever synth stuff) Don't have any requests on improving the forum as I always get what I'm looking for either by searching into old post or creating a new thread of it was already mentioned (or that I didn't find it). Anyway, thanks for all!

Hi Guys! My BIGGEST THANK YOU goes to Carsten; he is the one who has done all the work! I remember well the day back then when a guy contacted me, excited about AE and offering his help - and one of the first thing he suggested was to set up a forum. I was well aware this would be a good thing, but was lacking of time to do it... Carsten seemed to know this, so he asked right away if he should do it, without asking for money or another compensation... He made excellent suggestions, seemingly reading my mind; I only had to say "yes", "yes", "ok", "yes" - and paying the hosting fee :-))), and he did all the hard work on a highly professional level. And what came out over the last years we see now; sooo wonderful! I'm extremely happy to see the wonderful community that has been and still is growing <3 You and we are an awesome family!Attachments:200.webp (128.24 KB)

Happy Birthday! What is your favourite thing about this forum? The people! We all know it's a great community here. How did you find out about it?
I actually found out about the forum and the system at the same time. I was searching for an arduino DIY synth project and probably one of @nightmachine's or rodney 's posts came up or something. I quickly realized buying this system was a whole lot easier than making one from scratch lol. What would you like to see in the future?More of the same! How can we improve the forum?
You know my opinion on this one, I've been pushing Discourse since I got here

A friend of mine was selling his original large starter rack plus a few modules, and I thought it looked interesting, so I went and did some research before making him an offer. I found this forum and the community in here was part of why I thought it would be worth getting into the format. I have zero regrets about it, too, I guess obviously. Everyone I've talked to has been friendly and supportive. There are some seriously creative people in here and on the discord, and I'm happy to be part of that. Thank you, admin, for running it! What is your favourite thing about this forum? The community! Also, it's nicely laid out. Often I think people make too many subforums and it gets hard to keep track of what's going on. It seems well-thought-out. How did you find out about it?Web search! What would you like to see in the future?More of the same! How can we improve the forum?
Just keep doing what you're doing. Encourage users to make the forum great.

Happy Birthday my frAends! Never thought I'd be an internet social/forum junkie but here i am searching through the forum at every moment, obsessed with the community and what it provides. i've only been here a short while but it feels like an age. What is your favourite thing about this forum?
Again the community (from Robert to the new members), one that does not belittle the mediocre and encourages learning as there is so much talent here it is easy to be overwhelmed. Learning via both old/new posts and demo videos. Obsessing over the Ae performances thread, i'm up to page 9 (i'm not good at the technical side but i can support the heck out of your music!) Learning via posting jams. This is a big thing, yes I could jam and let it go but to post it on the forum just adds to the whole experience of the community. I figure I enjoy everyone else's so why not! Discovering the artists. How did you find out about it?
Big thanks to admin here. I had the Ae for a few months when Carsten contacted me asking if i'd be interested in a site to allow Aus/Nz to purchase from a local dealer. Absolutely! and minimodular site was set up. legend! After purchasing some modules Carsten said that it would be cool if I would participate in the forum....."There's a forum!!!" What would you like to see in the future?
A time machine so that I can do this all again, from the start this time. Also collaboration sounds really cool How can we improve the forum?More of us loading up jams/music. It really is awesome to watch everyone around the world creating with the Ae, regardless of the quality, it's all good. cheers all, i've had too much coffee..... Dan

Once all this COVID mess is nothing but a bad memory a gAEthering (tm ) of some kind would be pretty awesome.

Thank you Carsten as well for admin-ing the forum!
What is your favourite thing about this forum? No Trolls/Bullshit
How did you find out about it? So long ago don't remember!
What would you like to see in the future? More people participating in discussion threads rather than just posting "problems"
How can we improve the forum? It's fine for me.
Keep enjoying your gear people!

What is your favourite thing about this forum?
The great (friendly!) community; having Robert active on the forums from time to time is great too (as long as he doesn't take too much time away from assembling all our Cirrus orders ) How did you find out about it?
Pretty sure I just stumbled on it from the TW website while researching/dreaming of buying a starter rack! I'm sure I was lurking here before I actually purchased. What would you like to see in the future?
More active users! I'm sure AE will continue to be popular and grow and I hope people will join up and contribute here, post pictures of their systems, suggest module ideas etc. How can we improve the forum?I actually find the forum software charming in a retro way - it reminds me of places I used to hang out in the early 2000s maybe that is not a compliment as such, but it gives me the warm fuzzies. But I agree that its not always easy to keep track of topics etc.

One thing I did think of for improving the forum was being able to track a particular thread, get notification(s) when there is a new post on that one. That could even be just when you log onto the forum like when people like or reply to your posts.

Happy Belated Anniversary to All.
Don't post as much as I should... (I blame lurking as my disease now-a-days).
Just trying to imagine what the next 3 years will be like? Robert, Carsten (and all the many AE Modular-ites) have done such a great job and I foresee nothing but more success in many avenues and ventures. So exciting to think of everything to come with Tangible Waves and I tip my hat to your success Robert!

What is your favourite thing about this forum? Everyone is happy to be here. There is so much negativity out there. It's nice to have a place where people aren't fighting.
How did you find out about it? Lugia. I was dead set on building a Eurorack synth, but Lugia steered me toward AE Modular. An actual affordable modular synth that did not compromise on sound was right up my alley.
What would you like to see in the future? A hyper drive or warp drive some kind of faster-than-light engine, lol! On a more serious note, I'd like to see more of what you've already been doing.
How can we improve the forum? I wish we had more people.

I finally got around to typing some answers... TLDR: good work everybody What is your favourite thing about this forum? It's been said before, but bears repeating: This is probably the most positive forum that I have the pleasure of being part of... feels like a family almost. How did you find out about it?
My long-term musical collaborator ashito bought a Starter Rack 2 early in the first lockdown and the technical specs matched up with things I was already working on, so it seemed like a good basis for continuing some of those ideas. Although I'd previously not heard of AE Modular by name, I do remember seeing an AE Modular system one year at SynthFest in Sheffield, but passed by quite quickly as I was not really interested by modular at that point! What would you like to see in the future?
An end to all of the geopolitical crap, a return to being able to send and receive packages to/from Europe without being mugged... but for AE Modular, I just say 'carry on with what you're doing'! How can we improve the forum? Sometimes it feels like the forum software is a bit clunky, but I suppose that it doesn't get in the way too much... a Discourse-based forum might be nice

Congrats! Quick thoughts from me...
What is your favourite thing about this forum? Robert! Interaction with the designer is a wonderful thing when done the right way, and we have a nice respectful balance here.
How did you find out about it? Either via Google or off another forum - I forget.
What would you like to see in the future? More of the same with new people.
How can we improve the forum? My only minor gripe would be the like functionality - I'm quite anti social media (and am currently cutting down my forum action too fwiw) and I wonder if the like button, which I perceive as a social media thing, stifles conversation?
Anyhow, keep up the good work!

My only minor gripe would be the like functionality - I'm quite anti social media (and am currently cutting down my forum action too fwiw) and I wonder if the like button, which I perceive as a social media thing, stifles conversation? I get it and am the same with social media, most of it is destructive. I prefer the creative side of it, sharing things amongst like minded folk and ignore the crap. Just on the like functionality, I am very forgetful so I use it as a reminder that I've seen and listened to performances/threads and also as a marker and acknowledgement/agreement during the discussions, then if I can add to the discussion I'll comment so just putting it out there if we ditched the 'like' it would be cool to have ssomething similar even if it's a name change or something for the user to see where they are up to.

So there are a few gripes with the forum software and I get that. It's really a bit clunky and old school in some ways and there's other forum software out there that looks more modern and has a few better features. However this forum was made when AE was really young and no one talked about it. I think there were only 150 real customers yet. So Robert and I didn't know whether this would even take off at all! Also we wanted a forum that would be super easy to manage so that neither Robert nor myself have to spend a lot of time on software updates, server updates, security issues, bandwidth issues, hackers, etc. This forum is a "free" hosted service which usually shows ads. Robert pays a little bit to keep away the ads, and a little bit to increase the storage for uploaded attachments. But that's it, we don't have to do anything else ... just focus on moderation and having fun interacting with the community. In a way we bought the convenience of management in return for some clunkiness and being stuck with the features that are available (or not). A few people have suggested to move the forum to a different platform over the last 3 years, but it would be a lot of work, a lot of time and if paid, would cost A LOT of money (I know, I sell enterprise websites for a living). So I hope that people can live with this forum for the time being. We also now have the Discord server and Facebook group for more intermediate communication. And to collect useful information in a better readable and navigable format we have the Wiki. I hope this message helps to put things into perspective a bit? However if someone wants to get involved and improve the things that canbe improved here's a list: - The forum software uses html/css templates for styling, these can be changed for instance to create a dark theme.
- The wiki software allows styling via html/css templates as well, so a dark theme might be good.
- I would love to have more content on the wiki. Maybe people could scour the forum/Discord/Facebook for content that should be turned into proper articles and put on the Wiki for documentation and learning purposes?
- A system to document and publish patches would be nice. This could either be an extension of the Grid or work very similar. I wouldn't know how to build this, but if there was a bright spark in our community who loves a challenge ... it's yours for the taking!
But the most important thing in our forum is what you guys are already doing every day ... provide content! Post your music, ask questions, answer other people's questions, discuss methods and techniques of electronic music making and share your thoughts. And for this, your ongoing participation, I'm incredibly thankful!

The forum is good as it it, I don't feel there is a need to change it to something more modern, unless it doesn't work as intended.
The dark theme is a reaaaaly good idea! I do like the way it looks, but it's very agressive for my eyes when checking the forum at night.
