hmm, cases look nice does the hinge allow them to be folded together? (even if you have to disconnect the rack connector temporarily)

does the hinge allow them to be folded together? (even if you have to disconnect the rack connector temporarily) This hinge does NOT currently allow them to fold. But I'm working with Robert on a hinge design that would allow that. Any ideas welcome!

It would be nice for that to fold for transport, however I think they would have to be de-patched.

admin , from pictures looks likes its close , if the hinge was long enough then if two knobs loosened should it now be able to come over the top ? ideally if the connecting cable between the two was long enough it would not need removing. User could then put a piece of foam between to avioid damage during transport. To allow for patching the gap would need to be bigger, but honestly I’m not sure the patch cables are secure enough to allow for that. Another thing that would be useful is when folded is to have some thing that the locks them together, some kind of catch perhaps For more ideas look at the Arturia eurorack system , it’s pretty similar to this. Of course there are various other folding solutions for Eurorack. I guess the thing to be clear on is why? I see it as useful for transport to be folded to reduce size, also perhaps in studio if space is restricted. Of course I if it’s for taking ‘on the road ‘ you’d need more protection, so cases like Felix’s make more sense ( to me)

thetechnobear I was also thinking of the Arturia Rackbrute extension. And yes one would only need to make a hinge that's a bit longer. The foam would be good for protection and to "latch" it together I even though something as simple as a short belt that wraps around would do. Anyway, I've discussed all this with robertlanger before and I hope that a "mobile foldable" hinge will emerge

perhaps the thing about the Arturia system which is not so obvious about the handle/hinge design is, the V shape allows the hinge to be a bit smaller the handle means that it can tilt the lower case up towards the player.(i.e. you can set the angle of both the lower and upper case) - quite a nice idea.
of course, the Arturia systems needs to be more robust/heavier, since eurorack is a little heavier than AE.

Could some sort of flight case/suitcase have an AE modular cases fixed inside it? Just an idea, my AE is on a keyboard stand and not going anywhere unless I move house!
