Finally ordered Dead Band!
Will probably order Great Divide (GD) and Five Step (FS) next month. I'll probably use GD/FS to replace my SEQ8.

You will, IMO, not be able to replace SEQ 8 with GD/FS combo since FS outputs 5 volt for each step whereas the seq 8 can output different voltages per step. They are two different beasts.

Hmm, that's something to think about. I want an arpeggiator instead of another linear sequencer. I don't like the SEQ8 as much as the SEQ16. With a FS/GD combo I can move up, down or change direction or randomly select which pitch in the arpeggio is played. That will add a lot of texture to my minimalist patches that a straight linear sequencer won't. Since I have three SEQ16s, the SEQ8 simply isn't needed in my rack.

Three SEQ16s!! Then yeah some variety sounds like a good thing!

You will, IMO, not be able to replace SEQ 8 with GD/FS combo since FS outputs 5 volt for each step whereas the seq 8 can output different voltages per step. They are two different beasts. Well you can dial in specific voltages for each step with the Five Steps (using the knobs). The big difference with seq8 regarding setting voltages, is that the output voltages of Five Steps are not 'independent' of one another. So the first step is equal to Voltage 1, but the second step is equal to Voltage 1+2, third step voltage 1+2+3 etc. So changing your first voltage knob changes all other ones as well (which actually is why transposing is so easy with this module). But it makes it harder to change exactly one note in the Middle of your sequence. I've used no sequencer in my small one row, and just five Steps gave me a lot of options. But it's def not a 'replacement with more options', as Seq8 has some functionality that FS does def not have.

(forgot to say, thanks for the support with the Dead Band! 😃)
For me personally the Five Steps is also a bit of 'letting go' of some control. It can suprise me, whereas the SEQ8 is more 'exact'. This is mainly in rhythm/tempo. As the rhythm of the arp is dependend on the input lfo shape/speed/voltage, you get different results with different LFO's. It can add some outwordly swing and weird patterns. Attenuating the lfo can make your arp shorter, or let different notes follow eachother quicker etc etc. Playing with the lfo shape can give some crazy 'asymmetric' up/down arps etc.
But if you want eg a really tight quarter note arp, it's gonna be hard with FS because your input LFO has to be perfect.
Tip for FS users wanting a tighter arp: sync your lfo to the first beat of your pattern, so the arp always Starts at the first beat. A clocked RBSS can also provide magic!

Thanks for the clarification, I thought the step 5 only output gates and the pots were to dial in the moment at which they got triggered.

The thresholds are fixed (exact voltages are on the store page), and these thresholds are chosen so that the AE 2LFO triggers all thresholds (AE lfo swings from 0-4V on average in my measurements). 😃
