Here's a little project I wanted to try — porting the sound-generation of the Bastl Kastle Drum to the core1.æ! I forked the source over on GitHub (link to source and audio can be found here: wonkystuff.net/core1-firmware-bastl-kastle-drum/Although the whole repo was forked, I’ve only worked on the drum so far

Got and loving the bastl drum kastel. Must have in AE mod box now. Hopefully, can be added to the previous order if not sent yet😅🤞

Not being by a castle user I have no concept of how this would work within the core? Demo sounds fun though!

Not being by a castle user I have no concept of how this would work within the core? Demo sounds fun though! I do need to do some videos, but time is a little tight at the moment! I will do something as soon as I can! BUT: The Bastl Kastle devices (original and Drum) have a pair of ATTiny85 processors, one performing sound generation, and one performing 'sequencing'. In the demo, I am using the rbss as a 'sequencer', and the core as the Drum sound generator. The output of the rbss is used to sequence the sounds whilst I manually tweak the pitch and decay knobs on the core. The sound is not identical to the Kastle Drum, and the patch is obviously not as compact as the Bastl devices, but it is in the right 'ball park' I think! For an in depth view of the Kastle Drum, check out this video from Vaclav:

Or is it that the change in pitch selects and plays the sound? I liked the demo so I'll look to have a go at running it...

I liked the demo so I'll look to have a go at running it... Yes, there are two inputs: a 'trigger' which produces a regular or accented 'hit', and the drum-select - which also causes a sound to play. It's interesting to be able to 'scratch' the sound-select knob to get some sort of output Some of the sounds are short samples, others are synthesised (for example there's a two-oscillator FM sound where the 'pitch' input is one oscillator frequency and the position of the sound-select knob drives the other frequency. Quite neat. The 'decay' control is also nice in that you have an option of modulating pitch with the audio envelope! Clever chaps over at Bastl I know that the sound isn't the same as the real Kastle Drum, but it's fun to play with nonetheless...

I should probably have listed the controls already (will update the website later) - Knob A: Pitch (no CV control unfortunately)
- CV-B : Trigger input (set the knob to minimum)
- Knob C/CV-C : Decay
- Knob D/CV-D : Sound select (8 to choose from)
I've been working on the OG Kastle VCO as well, and am nearly there

Excellent! I'm wondering about getting a second of these down the road - I prefer the firmware upload side of things to grains. We'll see...

Ah! Ummmmmmmm maybe. Not sure if I regenerated the audio file for the firmware to be honest. I shall check later…

Took me almost 5 min and many tries before noticing that the SoundCloud on the page went on as well while changing the firmware 😅. After this 1 try and 8 seconds later it worked perfectly. Fun little guy and pretty close to the kastel drum spirit of sounds 👌

No I guess it's my big hand who push play on both at the same time... Just was tricky to notice as I didn't ear anything since the mini jack was only going into the system but not out. I don't think that there is some kind of automatic SoundCloud playing when it appears 🤷. But it's why I put it in case someone has the same shaky hands as me😅

Maybe a tip: I had some trouble loading the drum firmware into the core, I could load all of the other firmware after 1 or 2 goes. The drum I tried for a while. I am on the beta version so thought it might just take some time.
I had all of the volumes turned up and could hear the firmware loading, even bi-passed the core and could hear it fine through the mixer but no go and was about to ask the forum but then I tried loading it through the 2SignalAmp and bingo, first go.
Probably my set up/crap pc/volumes etc but if you are having trouble try that. cheers
