Sounds brilliant but will have to wait until my new case early (hopefully!) in the new year. Definitely a purchase for any Drone producers....

Super-cool, just ordered mine!
also, is it possible to do the builds with extended time lengths?

Super-cool, just ordered mine! also, is it possible to do the builds with extended time lengths? Looking into it, have a slow prototype that needs about 30-60sec to orbit, but it's not as chaotic anymore (just a sloooow lfo really). So will need some more tinkering

Here's the philosophical question; is there really a module really geared towards a certain genre of music or does the synthesist find a way to use the module to produce a certain genre of music?
keurslagerkurt (Dr Octagon?) is no Drone producer IMHO, but all the modules he has provided so fare have all turned out to be mainstays in my rather Droney productions.

pt3r indeed a very interesting question. I think gear can be 'intended' or geared towards a certain aesthetic, but especially in Modular 99% of its use is in hands of the synthesist. Indeed, I'm def not ye olde Drone artist, although I think half of my AE patches have been Ambient-oriented. I find that the machine lends itself very well to ambient, and at least in my hands that feels like it's home territory. However, when relistening my tracks, I think my personal, musical strengths are best played out in more rhythm oriented music. After all, I'll always be a drummer in the first place, it is the musical territory that i have explored most in my life. Sloth might be an extreme case, as you can't really tweak it, it really does it's own, slow moving thing. On the other hand, even non-modular gear can shine when picked up by a new crowd (thinking of you, lovely 303 ).

I feel Modular synths, like any complex synth, lend themselves to more spacious/sound collage styles of music as the synthesist/composer wants the listener to hear all the minutiae of changes within the sound. Complex sounds are generally lost in an uptempo &/or dense mix... The main person I would say contradicts this thought is JM Jarre; he can do uptempo with some pretty oddball sounds still clear in the recordings, part of his talent I believe....

I'm spending too much on modules, but I could not resist the sloth. I really enjoy things like cross-modulating LFOs mixed with a smooth random voltage, so this really feels like my kind of thing.

Come on BPOST, ship faster . Really looking forward to this one, I think I might come up with a few patches where this would be super useful.

Na, the machine doesn't know what you want it to do until you patch it. For instance AE Modular lacks a complex sequencer, yet, somehow, I use complex sequencing in 90+% of my patches. Robert only the designed the SEQ 8/16 for "simple" Berlin-style baselines. The machine is best at producing whatever is in your head/heart. The modules, they are just tools to build a musical house of sorts. Just listen to the albums we produce every year. We're all using the same modules, but we all have different types of music and sound.

So the synthesists will always find a way, no matter the initial concepts of the designer. I also have this tendency to use the SEQ8 in a way they were not necessarily designed for, but that probably comes with the fact that I try to solve my musical equations within the rack, and that this is a modular system where anything goes until you run out of patchcables, ideas, or patchpoints.

Meanwhile, we're still waiting for mr Postman to deliver the sloth. Ayyy, that's quite unusual, but probably the pre-christmass madness i guess? Last month I had a package arrive in Austria in two (!!!!) days. I'm a bit behind with shipping Sloths, as I was pretty overwhelmed by the number of orders!! 😃 So thank you for the support all, i'm trying my best to get them out at a steady rate. Going to the post office with a new batch as we speak

Nice quality kit as we're getting used to. Soldering took no time and the result is just WOW. Excellent module, this will easily become a main staple in future patches. Great stuff.

This is so cool to hear. Even more pumped for it now. Agree the quality has always been great with clear instructions too.
