Hello,
I noticed there is a choice in firmwares for the new o_C module, Hemispheres and Original. Is the firmware user changeable or is it a "pick wisely" type of scenario?
Exciting stuff, thank you all!

This is an excellent question! At the back of the module is an original Teensy which has a Micro USB port. Using the Teensy firmware uploader you can switch between firmwares easily just as described here by Synthdad:

Wow! AE has matured so quickly. I've been saying for a while it's mutated into digital hybrid monster - Robert really should perhaps consider marketing it slightly differently since, while true, the affordability factor sells it short these days; it's fully fledged format now, and while the price is keen, over pointing to this might detract from the quality of the range?

Perhaps it is time for a slight change in emphasis on the marketing side. When you listen to the albums, soundscapes and music everyone is outputting and at a prolific rate, the AE often sounds better than systems costing 3x to 5x as much. Also every time I post an album or patch to modular grid or one of the other forums, they are surprised at how good this "sleepy little monster" sounds.
I never would have progressed as quickly if I had gone with Eurorack, Buchla/Serge or Moog. Cost being the #1 limitation. The original objective have been achieved, imo. I don't think they should abandon that approach, but that seems to be your idea as well: A slight change to better emphasis the capabilities of the system as opposed to low-cost.
I was just thinking of the original VCO. We would all say not the best, but given all the other digital oscillators, that is no longer a concern. Also the FMOS oscillator as a modulator to the triangle wave of the VCO as a carrier:
FMOS > VCO > WAVEFOLDER/DEADBAND = a very complex oscillator! Once the TH555 VCO is fleshed out or Robert's advanced analog oscillator is launch, my goodness! MEGA COMPLEX OSCILLATOR!

Yeah, that's pretty much where I'm at. I think comparing to other formats is somewhat moot; ultimately they all have their strengths and weaknesses. I love the digital crunch messes I'm making with this thing though, and that's something that makes the AE stand out for me.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure I can think of another single manufacturer who has the digital side of things nailed so well - it's something to celebrate!
