Hello williamv, It would really help us to understand what your patch looks like. Can you please make a photo and upload it here? That way we aren't second guessing, what's going on.

Correction: While the sequencer is active, BSP will only output signals channels assigned to it's three sequences plus whatever channel is assigned to "control mode", since it has not midi thru.

If your beatstep pro syncs nicely with the recorder then you can send out a clock pulse from the BSP via clock out to the Master module. This clock pulse is not midi clock i.e it is not 64PPQ but rather 4PPQ or 2 PPQ depending on the settings in the BSP. but it is very capable of syncing your AE sequencers to the speed set in your recorder. I don't use midi clock to sync my blackbox with the AE but rather the clock out since that can be connected directly to the SEQ modules without the need to interface via the clock didvider.

but if i cant use midi i cant get my seq16 to overdub sequences which is how i work. cv ggate is ok for a side fx but not for sync in songs or phrases

Seems ok. Do you get the blinking lights on the master after the start message?

yeah same, looks fine to me. I can see that the light on the Divider is on so it is getting some sort of voltage. If the divider works and blinks with an LFO then its probably the master we need to look at.

no the lights dont blink that was because it was connected to the bsp before . if you put a midi signal through the ae nothing happens

Ok if the lights don’t blink then the problem is occurring before it reaches the beat divider module. I suspect something to do with the connection between your hard disk recorder (i have to admit i can’t visualise what this is, a recorder which also has midi out?) and the master module. There are two types of DIN midi connectors - type A and B - i can’t remember which one AE supports, but it could be that your external device is using the other type.

well no because this set up used to work now it does not i am convinced it is a problem with the master module. i am using an old boss br1200 hard disk recorder it has midi in and out all you do is set it to midi clk and off you go, directly out of the br1200into the beat step pro then directly in to the ae modular and then it works fine. thats why you see the lights on on the master mod i didnt reset it before i hooked it up this way.below
it is only when you try to use br1200 midi out to ae master mod then midi clock divider when it is patched like this nothing happens

sorry i forgot to mention the recorder has a midi out so it makes it possible to overdub so you can have say 4 different phrases on the seq 16 recorded one at a time and in sync i know all you guys record a peformance with drums and maybe 2 sequences in one go , i seen you all om you tube and it is brilliant stuff its just i dont work like that maybe i am on the wrong bus!

nothing wrong with doing it the way you like.
I don't use midi much so this is where I jump out as I'm a little confused if it works fine through the bsp but not direct with the br1200.
I could have read that incorrectly.

Yeah i’m not a big midi user either, at least not with AE. So Boss typically uses the Type A midi Din to TRS standard. Beatstep Pro and AE both use Type B standard. This might go some way to explaining why the signal apparently works when the chain is Boss > Beatstep > AE but doesn’t work when it’s Boss > AE

ah ok, interesting. I connected a norns to Ae via midi type A and could not get the clock to work, gate worked fine. I then connected the monostation to Ae via Midi (both use the same midi breakout cables) and the clock works fine in Ae through master. I then simply unplugged this and replugged the breakout cable that was connected to the norns all along (was playing but not connected) and Clock works fine through master now? Maybe it needed a kick. williamv maybe this will work for you.

Hello williamv, I also think that, while not optimal, your patch looks OK. I would now check the MIDI connection between your MIDI clock and the Master module. Once you click start on your MIDI sequencer you should see the LED next to CLK on the Master module flashing rapidly. If that flashes, it means you're getting the MIDI clock signal into the Master module. Then patch Bus CLK to the input CLK on your MIDI DIVIDER and you should see the OUT A LED flashing.

Hello williamv, please try one more thing. Instead of the Bus CLK, patch a square wave LFO into the CLK input of the MIDI DIVIDER. If you put the LFO on FAST and turn the RATE all the way to the right you should see the OUT A on the MIDI DIVIDER flashing.
