I've had my o_C for about a month now but only just trying it since it needs quite a bit of learning I needed some dedicated time.
Having an issue with the CV out, I'm using copiermaschine but the CV is v. high. I'm only getting about 2 octaves and have to have it set on either -5 or -4 octave to get any playable cv into my oscillators. note the octave settings range from -5 to +5.
my oscillators are tuned as low as they will go. It's not a very usable situation atm. has anyone else also got this issue?

I don't have a multimeter so i skipped stage 3 - "calibrate DAC channels"
At 'calibrate CV inputs' -
I found that each CV input was at something like 1700 by default so adjusted them all down to zero - lots of encoder turning!
Adjusting the CV input scaling - again, no multimeter, but i took it on trust - connected a cable from A out to CV1 in and long press the right encoder to set the offset value.
As far as i can tell the module is now working as it should be!

Ah great, I'm glad it worked for you too! Maybe this is something we should put on the wiki page (as well as a note about how to change the encoder direction) as these seem to be common queries and o_C is complex at the best of times. Not sure who is in charge of the wiki though - admin? |

I think you're right, it would be good to inform folks they should attempt the calibration at least once - it's not hard. I did use my multimeter and it seemed like all the settings were out by about the same amount.
There's so much to learn about the module too. I'm finding the original O_c wiki/docs a bit confusing as they're a bit terse and assume people must know parts, like how the CV3 changes the mask rotation on the Copier Maschnie - I can't work it out... It's such a deep module. It's really good though

Don't have multimeter and don't really want to buy one. I guess I should. Might need to put a disclaimer on the shop page as well that it needs to be calibrated... Mine went back as it had other problems. Hopefully it will came back calibrated 🤞.

Yeah, I think I'm going to send mine back as well. I also have an oscillator that won't calibrate, so now might be a good time for both.

Hmmmmm. I hadn't performed any calibrations and I was able to get decent results by reducing the input gain (by default it's at 1.0, the max), and lowering the cv output by 2-3 octaves. But I bet I can get better results with this calibration so I'll try that. Thanks for the info!

Yeah that works too, i did the same thing at first. Calibration has the benefit of making that adjustment permanent so no need to think about it every time |

thank you gentlemen,, this thread has been most helpful ... voltages aren’t always perfect in AE land but this info helped me get usable results out of the CV recorder in Hemispheres suite.. NOW, if only someone could fathom out how come the Metronome applet doesn’t show the play button or multiply on mine!? i can adjust the tempo on it to my hearts content but it won’t run , either in background mode OR just as a visible app so i can use the clock cv out from it ?? somethings missing somehow and i can’t figure it out  still, it’s a beast of a (dual) module |

further reading : to start metronome in ‘internal’ clock mode LONG PRESS LEFT ENCODER .... this is great , all the tempo based apps now have their own clock ,, and once its going you can still use two separate apps with clock in background...

it's a fork of Benispheres, which in turn is a fork of Hemispheres  this one includes some tweaks and quality of life improvements, and as well as the Hemisphere applets it retains some of the stock o_C apps, as well. I've only had time for a little play with it but it's definitely reignited my interest in a module which has been overlooked for a while! Such a shame it's unavailable right now and looks like it might be forever unless the community adapts o_C for an actually-available version of Teensy... |

Further adventures in Ornaments & Crimes.....
I got curious about some of the Phazerville / Hemispheres apps including the Captain MIDI script for midi in/out. Decided to pop the Teensy out for inspection and promptly snapped two of the legs off it, requiring some delicate repair work, whoops
All fixed up and ready to go , the o_C DIY instructions include an optional step where you cut the trace on the teensy for USB power, this isn't done on the AE version which is fair enough because the usb socket is hidden away inside. It does mean you can't connect to usb while the module is being rack-powered (because you'd be double powering it). But i'm feeling adventurous today, so cut the trace (and checked with a multimeter!) and connected back to bus power, then connected the Teensy to a computer with a micro > usb A cable. Tested it out with a little bit of Orca and... we have USB midi!!!
For longer term usb access i managed to feed a cable through one of the ventilation/tuning holes in the rack bottom panel
I look forward to doing some midi with this, glad it didn't mess up too much because i only remembered afterwards that Teensy 3.2s will probably never be available again  |

I've had my o_C (original firmware) sitting in the rack a while now while I figure out how to use it. I figured that the sequins app would probably not have its sequencer notes interpreted correctly by my oscillators. I wondered if it might help sending sequins CV to my quantiser module first?

yeah , the same guy DjPhazer ( of phazerville o-c ) is making headway from the original guys abandoned code... I already have an extra AE O_c with a teensy 4 on it running Squares & Circles ,, it’s outrageous! similar to yrself, I bent & broke a pin swapping Teensies on the Ae version , kinda wish Robert had used the normal hardcore pin headers on these things as it also means you have to source teensies without the headers ... didn’t purchase one of them last batch Teensy 3.2 that thonk got in last week , £40 odd quid seemed a bit steep so i hesitated , and they were all gone after a few hours.. still it’s all amazing for ae land ,,, and a teensy 4 version might be even better?? |

Ooh i just realised the Squares & Circles firmware is audio-focused, that could be very useful in a small case ... rockysmalls the Teensy 4.0 just replaces the 3.2 without any further modification to the module, right?? Where did you get the teensy in the end? Thonk has them in stock and it looks like they come without headers but not sure if thats just a generic photo... Honestly i think Robert could consider making this available again as a S&C specific module (especially as it looks like the original o_C firmware will be coming to Teensy 4.0 after all). That's assuming the lack of teensy 3.2 was the only thing making it hard to produce |

That's assuming the lack of teensy 3.2 was the only thing making it hard to produce yeah, with 4 channels of synth/drum stuff ,, there is also a good amount of env follower cv output modules ,, and one amazing BUT slightly hidden trick that i might reveal if pressed ( bribed!? :] ) can get a bit crackly ( buffer under runs? ) if you use 4 of the intensive modules/ stereo fx at the same time with a lot of modulation. i keep sending the info to robertlanger ,, hope he’s getting it, as Sq+Circ is a whole other beast that is easily worth the same money or a bit more. i ended up getting my Teensy 4 from Pi Hut which was a bit more expensive ( but quick ) at around £23 , i think they are maybe cheaper at Thonk , or at least they were in the sale recently (£18) but not sure if they add vat etc , might be more expensive in the round up? trying to put a BC release together for this friday , using it and some of the lovely Grains Code Sean Luke feijai has provided us with recently, mainly Geiger & Elements.. too many distractions, might not make it and may have to just bung an unfinished zip up on Dropbox for the AE commune. don’t forget to buy yr Teensy WITHOUT headers! but you knew that already ;-) |

dizzeesatchelactually Thonk still has teensy 4 on sale .. so they work out just under £20 ( £19.20 ) vat inc .. and they do do a cheap 2nd class postage at £2.60 ... not bad not bad.. pi hut has gone up to over £25 ,, a d i notice on ebay the teensy 4 is often £33 or £40 or more!! are we heading for a shortage on that one too now!?  hopefully not ,, i know the Phaserville O-c will work on teensy 4.1 as well BUT that one won’t fit in an AE O_c ...

oh , and there is another thing about Squares & Circles .. apparently you can use CV1 pin ( or trig1? ) IN as a midi in!! i haven’t tried it but that means no more hacking to access the usb maybe? .. don’t know the extent of its usage on O-c SQ-Circ ... i’m not much of a midi person..
Johns Midi Brains might go well here , or it might not even need that?

Sold! Looking forward to taking it for a spin I do wonder if Robert has a bunch of Teensy-less o_C modules knocking around at tangible HQ... assuming i enjoy squares & circles, i'd consider getting a second to run Phazerville alongside it. Even if it was sold as an 'empty' module, i'm still going to have my original T3.2 which could go in it. On the other hand it's open source (i think?) so if TW has no plans in the short to medium term, maybe our 3rd party community could pick up the baton...? Also - i might have begged for this before but robertlanger i would *love* to design my own super minimal o_C panel, if you'd consider releasing the front panel file for the measurements .... (pretty please) ... maybe rockysmalls will tell you his super secret O_C trick in return |
