When I try to send samples to my TBD, I get an error.

These are the steps I follow:

-start tapp

-open webinterface

-click 'Edit sample ROM' button

-select compatible (4416 mono wav) audiofile

-click "compile, send to TBD"

Then, the error "Erase failure" shows.

Tried different webbrowsers without succes. All other features see to work fine. For instance, in the tapp terminal I can erase the TBD, or flash firmware or the samplerom. To exclude any aspects, I also tried to run the tapp tool as administrator. I even tried it with my laptop rather than my desktop. Same story.

Tried different audiofiles too,just to be sure. When I check "Prelisten wav files" they play just fine when I hover over them.

Any help is of course appreciated

can you please try the following:

Do the procedure as you described for putting wav-files together and compiling them to one file for the TBD,

but instead of: "compile, send to TBD" please select "compile, download PC"

You then can put your sample-collection somewhere on your Windows/Mac/Linux-box, which makes very much sense to have a backup anyways.

When doing so please also take care to mark if some of the files are meant as Wavetables or not

- If you want to keep the factory wavetables, please take those files to be found at:

github.com/aemodular/ctag-tbd/tree/master/sample_rom/wavetables

- The easiest way to access those is to go to: github.com/aemodular/ctag-tbd

- Then click on "Code" and save the whole repository as a ZIP-file, you then will find the wavetables at: <<yourdrivepath>>/ctag-tbd/sample_rom/wavetables

- You can load all of those at once via multiselect (depending on your OS) during the comilation-process via the Webbrowser as mentioned above

- Then you'll have to mark all of those as wavetables in TBD's webbrowser sample-compiler-list

Please note: if you are not using Wavetables with any Wavetable-related plugin for TBD you of course can leave them away and then gain more space for your samples!

When you have your compiled samples file on you PC, instead of uploading them via the default Webbrowser, please close your USB-connection programme "tapp"

and start it again. Then please select "FLASH SampleRom TBD" via tapp ('Terminal Application for TBD') - after you click that you can select a sample-file for TBD, which would be the one you saved prior to that. Again the behaviour here is a bit different depending on the OS you are using.

After that you have to start TAPP TBD again, in the mode you already know to be able to access TBD via your webbrowser as you already do now.

The process here is a bit complicated, because so far flashing the samples directly via the Webbrowser (over USB) is so slow that in contrast to the Eurorack version of TBD, which also supports WiFi-connection, it currently is not supported. Afaik, this is a flaw in one of the libraries used to drive the underlying processor / USB-stack, so this may or may or may not be improveable at some point in time.

BTW: Thanks to your feedback the situation has been reported as an issue here, now: github.com/ctag-fh-kiel/ctag-tbd/issues/64

I am however stuck at the FLASH SampleRom TBD part. It doesn't do anything.
Kindly find a screenshot with this post.
Not sure what is happening.

But it seems like another tapp-action already has been finished or could not be started. Maybe you selected the wrong of those two ports, but that I can only assume.

Also it would not have taken your new sample-file, but the default one, as it seems from the output of the script.

Sadly there is no errorcode/message reported by the underlying script.

The thing is, that it is not possible to for instance flash the rom and use the WebGUI at the same time, so you have to close tapp after each action completely.

(Sorry about that, but I could not find any other way to make it work, using this cross-platform GUI.)

Please make sure about the following:

a) That the tapp-application you use to connect your TBD via the WebGUI is finished/closed/not opened, there still may be an inactive window in the background?

b) That the port you are using to connect to the TBD is the correct one. There should be at least two buttons you can select from, if two ports are available.

Typicially the one with the name "USB-SERIAL CH340" should be correct.

As you seem to be using Windows, you can check that via Taskmanager / Device Manager.

In Taskmanager only one tapp.exe should be running, in Device Manager under "Printers/Ports" the port of the TBD should be visable and the same you use with tapp.

Then please start tapp again, it should look somewhat like in the screenshots below.

What you can do there is

a) Select the place where your sample-pack is located

b) Trigger the 'flash sample-rom' process

c) Click ok to overwrite

d) Wait until the flashing is finished to 100%

Please let me know if that works for you.

Worst case, despite of intensive testing on different computers with different OS-versions, there still could be a previously undetected bug in the application?

BTW: Which Version of Windows are you using - Windows 10?

Many thanks for all the useful information! Not sure what goes wrong on my desktop, but I just tried it on my laptop again and by following your instructions I could get it working. I'll check the issue on my desktop later. It must be some local issue. All works fine with my laptop. Thanks again 😊

Hi, very cool to hear you got it working!

Serial over USB, especially on Windows PCs, can be challanging.

For instance sometimes the COM-port would be marked as available, when it actually is not.

There is not much an application can do about that apart from "try again later" ;-)

Still I would find it interesting to find out why it worked on one of your machines and not on the other one.

Do both PCs have the same version of Windows, or is there a difference for instance?

USB-Hubs sometimes also can be an issue, especially passive ones...
