This is my take on a remix for which stems were provided of the original track including a drums and everything. I decided to take the whole track apart in the blackbox and reassemble it in my own way, cutting up the drums and building my own drum kit out of it, building new harmonic lines and sequencing some extra leads and 'vocals' from the AEmodular. This track has cost me the proverbial sweat blood and tears, I think I made 5 different versions, reprogrammed my drums over and overthought every arrangement and started all over again. Anyway this is my final attempt, and the only one I actually like, f*ck it I'm done with this. Dawless producing can be tedious sometimes and this was one of those moments.

I think its bl@@dy great and cool you are trying out new things
question, if you did this again would you do it in a DAW or stay in the blackbox? Is the Blackbox workflow limited for the complication of what you were doing. The screen size may be an issue for a big project too. I've always found DAWs just so already complicated (prob due to not going there much) and using a mouse annoying. Interested in your view of switching after a big and complicated (though successful) project

Interested in your view of switching after a big and complicated (though successful) project I would probably still do it with the blackbox, dawless production suits me better than say a laptop with ableton, the hands-on approach and the more limited possibilities force me to focus on the end result instead of wasting time trying out all the plugins and effects. Ableton can do lots of very fancy time stretching etc whereas the blackbox is way more limited in that respect but it makes you approach your source material in a more creative way I like to believe.
But remixing like this is a quite interesting exercise which I can recommend because you have to build something that still hints towards the original yet be different enough to validate the existence of the remix. I had most fun with the reprogramming of the drums, extracting something useful out of the melody samples was more tedious.

I'm glad the experience didn't push you away from the Blackbox. Says a lot actually that it is still a great tool. Agree the lack of plugin/effects temptation is a good thing, I'm distracted by everything and nothing. Maybe one day I'll give a remix a go.
