During the last zoom meeting solipsistnation suggested that every month we have a musical track task to inspire us. Next month someone different will choose a topic e.g., do your best Robert, Deofol, or Nick Cave etc As Tangerine Dream was mentioned as an example and has been in a few recent threads I thought I'd try and start us off and see how we go. So, if you feel inspired this month, please upload your Soundcloud audio here (videos excepted too of course) in this thread by the cutoff date as would love to hear your take on Tangerine Dream. Does not have to be all Ae, just include it, and we will see how people are creating music out there. Also as suggested maybe even put the tracks on an ever-growing album on Bandcamp(haven't thought of those logistics yet but happy to do the work if we go that way, suggestions welcome). Cheers edit: I personally don't know much about TD so I'm in for some listening. Here is a thread with some resource material if needed. forum.aemodular.com/thread/2448/tangerine-dream

Not gonna lie, I have never ever in my whole life listened to TD so yes I have a lot of studying to do in their enormous discography before I can go and even think about emulating them. This is the moment for all the TD boffins here ( admin, pol , robertlanger , ...?) to shine.

The brilliant thing here is that they have such a broad range you can do just about anything and call it TD! It definitely does NOT need to be Berlin school, you could even do vocals (with or without vocoder) and of course, always emulate one of their cover versions of other artists songs - Norwegian Wood anybody?!

I would probably listen more td if they made music like this. Excellent track, one of your best pieces so far imo.

A pretty basic reply for this challenge, to lower the bar after maydonpoliris excellent effort.
I did intend to put everything through the multifx, and add spring reverb to the main sequence but got to a point I was happy with it so stopped! The Solina is the pad, and the chord is varied manually by turning the knob, (no pitch change). My favourite bit is the "heartbeat bass" which is why it ends the piece... This was the Wonkystuff Baestledrum module. the 8 note sequence was the wavetables through the Kuzmin filter and Lo-fi delay. Basically several of the modules I banned myself from using on the regular patch challenges!

very nice pol really enjoyed that heartbeat bass and the Solina. Quite impressed you kept the piece to Ae Modular due to the vast TD friendly synths in your arsenal. Also, thanks for teaching me how to embed an Audio clip in the post, was driving me insane

Great work ๐ Like pt3r , I don't know TD that much, so I've been listening to them for a bit in the last couple days to get a better idea on what to make before starting.

Thanks very much mathias will be cool to hear your interpretation. I was in the same boat and after listening to TD I knew I couldn't reproduce what they do so I listened to what elements I liked (sequencing, transition, bass melody, FX etc) and then interpreted those elements into what I thought I could do so in that way it was a track inspired by TD rather than disappointingly trying to match it. Thanks for your interest in this challenge.

Following on from last night's online meetup, here's my attempt โ pleasant 3 hours or so reproducing my recollections of Phaedra-era TD All sequenced in AE, some reverb, autopan and compression added in Logic during mixdown. Solina, SEQ16, SEQ8, TRIQ164, VCO, topograf, wonkystuff ยต-drumsโฆ

Here's mine, late but not too late ๐ All raw sounds are out of AE, some FX added on top in my DAW (reverb, delay, EQ). Sequencing was done in my DAW as well and sent to AE. I tried something different when doing this one, I first made the whole track (sound included, not only MIDI) in my DAW. Once I was happy with it, I bounced the MIDI tracks and sent them to my AE with the goal of achieving something that sounded as close to the original as possible. Here's how the DAW version sounds like I managed to come pretty close with the AE version which I'm quite happy about (I do prefer the AE version BTW, it sounds a bit more balanced in general).

Really enjoyed listening to all of these tracks, hopefully it inspired more jams out there too.
Would anyone like to create a new cutoff thread with another genre, style etc?
