Thanks maydonpoliris for coming along. It was great to see you and I really enjoyed playing. It's given me heaps of ideas for refining the design and inspired me to do lots more practice insetting up versatile patches for much longer sets.
The Wavetable oscillator module really carries this set, but there's a lot I'd like to explore further. I used every filter I have at the edge of self oscillation, also the lo-fi delay module without any inputs. the topograf is responsible for the DC clicks driving namke's wonkystuff quad VCA.
Now I have a strong desire for more envelopes and mixers! (must ... resist ...)
Here is some video from VJ Shimmer Pixel's laptop:

Cheers Rodney, was lots of fun to meet and see you perform a great set. Also, was really cool to chat to someone who uses the Ae a lot differently to me and I took away some self-oscillation ideas which I played around with today. Have a long way to go to sound like that though!
When you were setting up/during/ and after your performance there was quite a buzz around me about your set which was great to hear.
great stuff

Excellent performance, I love the lab-coat, and are those safety glasses? Very tongue-in-cheek. Could you give us some more insight on your approach, how many voices do you run? Do you re-patch during the performance or is it a question of having an all encompassing patch that gets manipulated during the performance? This goes to show that visuals are key when doing this kind of music. I'm pretty sure it would not have the same impact on the audience if they just heard the show. Tip of the hat to the vj as well. Too bad you guys are located on the other side of the globe (sorry flat-earthers) would have loved to witness this live.

thanks! I really enjoyed playing. It was a patch using about half the system. I was mainly using the Wavetable for one 'voice', the FM for another, VCO sync'd from one of the semi-digital oscillators, Grains running the west Coast thingy. all the filters were submixed together with the lo-fi delay and all set resonating no inputs to anything, even the delay. The clicky sounds came from the topograf fed straight to a wonkystuff quad VCA, gating outputs of the m/mode divider that was driven by a pulse wave. That was meant to do more, but I must've bumped something and could not fix it in the dark, so I just went with the drones and developed that instead. Can't fight it. that[s what I like about doing this live.

THe lab coat has become the Earcandles thing. I initially decided to wear it when I took my synth out busking, the rationale being that, if I dressed as a mad scientist, it would alter audience expectations of the sound and style of music. Of course it's experimental, he's wearing a scientist coat ... ... but I think the lab coat carries a certain sense of authority too that is abused by cosmetic advertising, for example. The person in the ad is looking like a doctor/scientist fixing your beauty problem - you have a beauty disorder and need medical intervention from us!I call the coat my $29 PhD. The glasses are just my reading glasses. I got really bright frames so it's harder to lose them in a cafe, or at a gig where I need to wear them to see the tiny wires on my AE modular. `-0^0-' I have, naturally, already taken out all the patch cables so I can't give a full explanation of everything. However, I'll try to do a couple of little re-reations of parts of the patch as I am pleased with the variety of sound I could get from some simple set-ups and post them here.

I am especially happy with the synth set-up now. I need to adjust the strap a little so I don't have to bend down to reach some things, but generally, it feels good to ba able to walk around with it and not be bound to a table.
I was a bit too focused on the gear this time to move about much but I definitely prefer wearing it than sitting down.
this also came from my first try at busking with the synths, sitting down on a milk-crate in a crowded pedestrian tunnel in Sydney's Central station. I felt that I was just at the right height to be kicked by some aggressive drunk (after one went by without kicking me, it just awakened the thought) and I decided to try mounting it all on a guitar strap. It also addresses my misgivings about how seated electronic performers look like they might be checking their email whilst playing some MP3s.
It lets the audience see a bit more of what goes into making the music that comes out the speakers.
