Just received my Braedboard in the post (w00t!)
Why is there a stern warning on the bag of wires saying "Please DO NOT USE as general AE patchwire"!!!!!
What can go wrong? I mean they're just wires, right? I'm using ordinary wires I use for normal breadboard electronics projects all the time in my AE. Am I screwing something up or risking doing so?

I think the thing is that cheapo breadboard wires can 'catch' in the nicer new-style AE sockets, which could potentially damage them. You might notice them sometimes being hard to remove. If you have the older style modules which had more standard breadboard style headers it might be less of a problem.

The headers on the AE modules are high quality, and do have a spring inside them. Inserting the pins from breadboard wires can damage the spring.

OK. Thanks everyone.
That's worrying. The first thing that happened when I got my new AE was my official wires got mixed up with the rest of my wires. And I've been using arbitrary combinations of them ever since ...

The comments are basically correct; the ususal breadboard wires sometimes have sharp edges/burrs at the end of the pin and these can hook into the fine springs in the newer AE sockets, making it impossible to remove without damage. Without these burrs the usual breadboard wires might work too, but you are warned ;-) ...and, the soft, silicon AE ones are much cooler to handle :-)
