Howdy!
I'm working on designing a what I am for now calling an array mixer. This is essentially just a very basic stereo mixer with horizontal rows of input where the position of left to right would decide how much to the left or right the signal is panned.
If there are multiple rows the different rows may be for different volumes or different frequencies.
My current working design is that my module will have two rows of 7 inputs, giving a total of 14 inputs that can all be used simultaneously.
For each row there will be: Fully panned left, really panned left, a bit panned left and center (and obvi the same on the right side)
No the question is what to do with the second row should it either be:
1. Fixed at a certain lower volume than the "main" one?
This is a good option. 2. Apply a high cut at some fixed frequency?
I would only do this if you added a potentimeter so the frequency could be moved, otherwise rather limited....3. Apply a low cut frequency at some fixed frequency ? I
would do this if you added a potentimeter so the frequency could be moved, but could be useful if fixed for, e.g. seperating for a sub woofer....4. A combination of volume decrease and a filter?
Not if a combination is in one input, too restrictive to be likely to be useful.5. Any two of these selectable by a switch?
better.Another question, what values for the panning do you peeps think would be good?
Center, hard right, hard left and at least 1 between those extremes and the centre. What you have suggested for the row of 7 above sounds good. But on to the main question:
Is this a good idea?
Could be, depends in price, size, whether provides something a regular mixer or other module, (e.g. www.tindie.com/products/keurslagerkurt/the-great-divide-2-x-r2r-module-diy-kit/ ) doesn't. I could see it being used as a semi-matrix mixer for CVs for instance....Does the module make any sense?
Yes, I like the idea. Is this something anyone would find useful/want?
See above.Would you in some imaginary future where this gets built be willing to pay like 20 EUR for it?
If I saw a need for it, yes.I hope this makes some sense.
Cheers!
