Hi all, Although it sounds great, the hh110 µModule can be a bit quiet in the mix and I have been asked by a couple of people whether it is possible to make it a bit louder… The answer is 'YES'! I discovered during whilst experimenting for the 'v2' version, that there is indeed a very simple fix (but it's a bit fiddly because of the tiny 0402 components used in the µModules). | Next to the output socket is a capacitor (highlighted in yellow in the picture on the left), which just needs to be bridged… and that's it. I have done this on the module that I have in my rack and it brings the volume much closer to that of the bd55 and rs55.
It's a bit fiddly, so if you want to know whether it will be worth it there's an easy way of testing the effect of the change: whilst triggering the module (and listening) plug a patch wire into the output socket and then touch the other end to one of the solder points marked on the image to the right here. You should hear the difference in volume fairly obviously.
It should be possible to bridge the capacitor with a solder blob, but on my module I used a small piece of wire… | |
Any questions, please ask! ( pt3r: I made this mod on your module already as I discovered it before shipping your hh110)

Good to hear you got this sorted. I did indeed not notice a huge difference in volume with the bd and rs modules, so I was wondering what others were going on about, now I understand.

So uh, what's the component next to the one to bridge? Because I seem to have removed it and then, while using a loupe and tiny tweezers to attempt to put it back, flipped it off my desk into the infinite void of the carpet.
I did get the cap bridged, and the module still sounds like hihats, which is nice.

Best option for a ground connection would be the centre hole of the 3-hole connector under the potentiometer (marked ‘g’)

Okay, that's easy enough, and I have 10k resistors by the bushel these days. Thanks.

I did get the cap bridged, and the module still sounds like hihats, which is nice. I suppose the key question is: is it louder now? 😕

It is, in fact, louder now. 8)
