Doing a bit of hum/background noise poking around following the arrival of my tbd replacement (thanks Robert!) - one thing I'm noticing that adds significant amping of the background hum are the sends/returns.
It's no biggie since I'm used to the 5v nature of the AE system meaning more in the way of hum, and really I'm hunting for issues here with no audio signal going through the system.
That said I wonder if I've got my gain staging wrong here? Is there gain in either/both of the send/returns?
I'll also try patching direct from the effects I'm using to see if it's the modules themselves... I'll report back.

Had a bit of a play and I think it's a combination of the modules on there are a noisier and my return levels were probably set too high. Also, there's no real difference between the return ins and patching direct to a channel.

I have found that some things are definitely noisier and will generate quite a bit of hum on the mixconsole (especially on the jackout expansion). The meter module in particular seems to be quite noisy.

The meter module in particular seems to be quite noisy. Yeah, I think the stuff with screens introduces a bit, as do a couple of the FX modules. It's the nature of the 5v P2P thing though really, so just one of those things... and it's fine once you've got audio running and levels set right.
