hi, I’m looking into taking the big dive into eurorack, simultaneous with developing my AE rack. how many hp does the 16U frame use?

1U of AE = 25mm with 0.4-0.5mm tolerance , 1 HP(!) of Eurorack = 5.08mm 1U = 5HP -->> 16U = 408mm ~ 80hp its quite a chunk of space for a rack I have a 8U, but I ended up taking it out of my Eurorack for a couple of different (but related reasons) I ran out of Eurorack space (!) and I liked having the AE modular separate so I could use it on its own.... also even in the adapter AE modular felt 'separate', because if you wanted to do CV modulation you had to go via the Ctrl or 4IO, and similarly the audio from AE needs boosting (out) or attenuating (in), so I found myself tending to use AE modular as one block with a 'complex' patch which I then passed some CV in to from eurorack, and the resulting audio out as a stereo pair. but given the 'limited' interaction, I found this was as easy with longer eurorack patch cables to a separate AE case - which is what I do now. but thats just my opinion, I've seen videos of other users here where they seem to really enjoy having the AE in the Eurorack, and for sure if you have the space in your rack - its convenient for powering, and having one less thing lurking on your desk  |

thanks for answering that! yeah it would be cool to have it running off the same power supply etc but eurorack rack space is so expensive it’s not worth it.

but eurorack rack space is so expensive it’s not worth it. yeah, that's the conclusion I came too... in fairness, its not just AE though, I've come to a similar conclusion with the Koma Field Kit and Folktek Mescaline what I've found is, I put a few things like this in my Eurorack case when it was empty, but as it filled up, I quickly, started eyeing up what could leave the case to avoid another Eurorack case. that said, the adapter frame is really cheap - so if you're starting out in Eurorack (or you're adding an additional rack) and your rack is quite empty ... then you can always put the AE in it whilst there is space, then take it out later. one tip: I found the old patch wires were not really tight enough if you have your eurorack standing vertically, as AE is really designed for more horizontal or tilted angle. |
