So, after sitting on these diodes and transformers for 4 years, here’s ‘trm’ (Transformer Ring Mod) I'm pretty pleased how it turned out, and playing with it this evening, it definitely does some ‘ring mod things’ — with a good helping of grit, depending on how hot the source signals are. … now I just need to stock up on transformers…! The kit options, if there’s interest, will have all surface-mount components pre-assembled, leaving just the pot, two transformers, power connector and headers to solder on (all the through-hole parts).

View Attachment… now I just need to stock up on transformers…! The kit options, if there’s interest, will have all surface-mount components pre-assembled, leaving just the pot, two transformers, power connector and headers to solder on (all the through-hole parts). The passive solution is working well but as the two inputs are on the same input-transformer it seems they are influencing the VCO each other.
Ken Stone has a nice active solution:
I have done on breadboard a solution with two buffers with attenuator at the inputs and an amplifier with level control at the output !
Sure it will need two places at the rack.
The transformers are quite high! I will use two PCB - one with the passive part The other one - according the default configuration with pin headers and active part etc. Here there is the hole to push through the transformer!
Every thing fits into the rack and the front panel fits to the other modules:

The trm has buffered inputs and also a gain stage output (hence the surface mount components), so is not actually passive — but obviously the transformers are doing the maths…

Yeees, finally a transformer ring mod! Wanted to do this for ages; but great I don't have to do everything by myself ;-)

Nice, will this also land on Lectronz? (I'm not in a hurry, this can wait until after Christmas...)
