Are the new style patch cables available to buy from tangible waves?
The pictures on the shop show the old style ones.

I will put them in the shop this weekend (plus some modules); they are currently in production but I expect them to arrive quite soon.

Awesome. The new modules are up but I don't see the new patch wires. Have I missed something?

Not to take away from Robert in the least, but I just attempted the following and it seems to work great, with the needed larger pin; I took some Cat 5 network cable, stripped the 8 out, trimmed off a bit of the plastic coatings from both ends, then twisted the wire inside, then folded over and twisted again. Made for a larger pin to be inserted and seemed to hold in place a bit better like the new cables (I only did this as I discovered a spare Cat 5 cable in my garage and got to thinking.... certainly don’t want to take anything away from Robert, please understand).

Just in case it’s not known the new patch cables are now available. Post was made on the Tangible Waves FaceBook page.

Anyone now using the new patch cables exclusively. What’s your experience? Tight/ reliable fit? I ask as i need to sort out an AE order, and plan to replace all my patch wires. I really want to get rid of issue of noise when I touch the wires . However, I’ve a sample set of these cables. ( from superbooth time), and had an issue yesterday where the wire was extremely unstable in one module. It felt like the pin was just not long enough. ( it was ok with older patch wires) Disclaimer: this is a sample set, so they may have changed, this was in an older module ( plastic headers) and has been used quite a bit.

I have a recent model of the starter 2. All of the modules were updated with the new patch style, and I was also given all new patch wires. I have no issues.
I've used some standard patch wires that I have laying around and they do exhibit the behavior you describe. So yes. The new wires solve the issues at least for the new style modules.

In my experience they bring a significant improvement also for the previous type of sockets!

The new patch wires are great and I had no problem with them whatsoever. I have to say that I prefer to use them in the old module's sockets as they fit vey well in them.

I love the new cables. They feel good to handle and are resistant to tangling. They definitely bring the AE a little closer to the delicious feeling of inserting a good quality jack plug into a socket. (such interactions should have that satisfying finality of closing the door of a German automobile)
I have, however, had to come out of denial and wear my glasses when patching my AE modular. The price of miniaturization!
The new cables' pins have a diameter of around 0.84mm compared to roughly 0.76mm in the case of common electronic prototyping jumper cables. This makes them sit more nicely in the more common style header sockets found in the old AE modules as well as in Arduino boards, Raspberry Pi GPIO headers etc.
The new header sockets with the nice, tubular machine pin connectors, fit snugly with the new patch cables' pins. They can also still hold the old-style patch/jumper cable pins quite well.
One problem, noted already in the DIY discussions, is that the more commonly-available female machine pin header sockets from electronic stores usually have a diameter too small for the new patch cable pins, so it is better to use the more common headers in DIY projects.
robertlanger, would it be possible to make the female machine pin headers you use available in the store for DIY fanatics who must have the lovely shiny new ones?
I have been searching but have, so far ,not found a suitable header online. For those also hunting, the specs for a header need to have a mating pin diameter that has a range of about 0.76mm to 0.84mm. Usually, they only show the lower limit of the range where we really need to know the upper limit. The common 'snap-off' variety of machine pin headers have all been too small for the new patch cable pins.

I have both the sample wires and the new wires and the pins are longer now, so you wouldn't have that issue.

This makes them sit more nicely in the more common style header sockets found in the old AE modules as well as in Arduino boards, Raspberry Pi GPIO headers etc. Hmmm...that's interesting news. I already have a Folktek Mescaline on hand that uses the older-style headers, and the protoboard wires that Folktek supplied are sort of...meh. Wiggly, not secure, that sort of thing. So if the new AE patchwires improve things in the older AE modules, it sounds like they should be just right for the Mescaline as well! Cool!
Of course, this means I'll have to get buttloads more AE patchwires, but hey...
