In this video
VCV Rack can be coupled with a semimodular synth like Neutron,
in both directions.
Can something similar be done with AE Modular ?
With 4IO module ?

Should be possible if you have this VCV Rack Hardware Module and a power adapter for it. To use all 8 in or outs you have to have 2 4IO Modules.

I route my AE Modular into Eurorack (ALM S.B.G.) and through the ES-8 from expert sleepers into my DAW or VCV Rack

The ES-8 is a sound card, under MAC it is straight forward with an USB cable between the ES-8 and my MAC
VCV Rack sees the ES-8 as a sound device

any way to do this without the ES8-9/eurorack? any alternative soundcard devices able to interconnect?
i have sold off my eurorack stuff and dont want to go down that rabbit hole money pit again.

Actually, I use a MOTU 828FW mkII here for CV encode/decode. Any DC-coupled A/D-D/A can handle this; have a look at www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/siwacompatibility.html for a pretty comprehensive list of interfaces that can deal with Silent Way (and therefore Volta and Ableton CV Tools). |

You can actually go with an older 48 kHz interface to do CV conversion. Since there's no high frequency content in any of this, it's unnecessary to have some sort of "high resolution" digital interface. And this then makes the whole thing cheaper, as these sorts of interfaces go for $100-150 used. I think I only paid $100 for the MOTU I have...
