I'm one module space short of be able to get all 3 Drum modules in my rack2. I don't really want to sacrifice any existing modules as I use them all. I have a single 10 pin, 2 pair male bus breakout connector at the bottom of my rack2 chassis. I guess this is to add another rack. My question is: Can I break out this connection directly into a single module using a standard 10 pin IDC connector?
I know I should just start another rack. But necessity being mother of invention and all that.

Yep, start another rack. You know you want to.

can’t see any reason why not... i mean, that’s all a bus cable is going to be doing in another rack if you had one.. before those fancy splitter circuits inside the new racks were there it was just straight 10pin cables.. but it does lead to an interesting question... robertlanger what function does the components on the cable splitters inside the newer racks have? a new case is obviously inevitable but i understand yr impatience to try out the whole shebang before ordering even more AE goodies! careful with the orientation of the sockets though.. is there any indication which way up that 10 pin output is?

I'm guessing that there is the +V correct red strip orientation of the ribbon cable to get right. Surely that's about it unless some of the wires crossover between pins.

Yes, you can. The header at the front and rear of the case has the same pinout than the buscables, so you can simply plug in a cable as you have shown and connect a module to the other end. The upper edge of the pin header is the one with +5V power supply, this goes to the "upper" side of the module connector / more towards the center of the module. Or in other words: If you put the module upright in front of the case, then you can connect the case header with the module without twisting the cable. BTW: AE modular is much more tolerant against reverse plugged in buscables than Eurorack; usually, nothing should happen. But, TBH, I haven't checked it for each module ;-)

Many thanks Robert for your help. The orientation of the cable to the rack looks like it is illustrated in: I'll note the current connection orientation on the module too. I'm very excited. After I'd been racking my brains what to take out - it looks a good temporary workaround. I'll need to get some oval grommets for the housing and IDC cable ;-)
It is temping to make a box and run a row But for the few bucks more it cost to buy a new rack and accessories your right - it's not worth it. Plus I like to support the manufacturer. This is a dinky temporary workaround. A one module housing with an IDC connection. Should fit just right alongside the rack2 in the hard case I've got it all in. Probably take out the midi Beat Divider as the outside module as I like to work in just the AEM mostly anyway. Also as I've got every module patched in I wanted to have the whole thing being able to be handled by the mixer so it's all self contained - albeit with one side module.

My home made wooden housing for one 1u external module (with extra blank). Phillips screws in the base holding up the module / blanks. TOPOGRAF ordered!

My Topograf, Kick and 2VCA arrived today. Everything wired in OK with Topograf in its own separate wooden container with IDC cable connected to the rack bus.
One module space left. Going to have to think hard about that one!
