Logic Noise is a series of blog posts that take you by the hand and lead you through the jumper-lead jungle of CMOS sounds. It starts with a basic 3 component 40106 oscillator, adds sync capability and then launches off into chip space while keeping a friendly learning curve.
(you don't need an Omsynth to follow along with your own pile of wires, components and breadboard)
In the context of the AE Modular, there is no way these circuits will give you neat, precise pitches. These are essentially current-controlled rather than voltage-controlled. However, I am already hearing in my head how the AE's SVF and other modules could have a civilizing effect on these feral waveforms. Or, the Wave-folder might even show them how feral they can really be!
I think Robert's original conception of AE was less about playing the right notes and more about sculpting with sound but I am glad it lets us do both. I am equally passionate about droney noise as I am about fastidious microtuning etc.
Although the videos and articles talk about 9v and 12v power supply, most should work fine with 5v without modification.
Magic Smoke Release Events are still possible, especially from short circuits, so measure outputs and check everything before hooking up that fateful patch cable.
