A thread for my live jams and patches.
I've finally figured out a decent (not ideal) recording setup, so should be able to put a lot more of my patches out there for all to see.
What you can expect: I tend to enjoy slower music usually, and will likely produce things along those lines. I particularly enjoy the intersection of techno and ambient. Will it always be something like this? No. Probably not. For one, the AEM is just too much fun and exploring different sounds is unavoidable!
At some point I expect to hit a nice sweet spot, consistency is the ultimate goal.
The current setup: - I currently use my iPad to record video. The iPad is propped up on top of my reel to reel.
- I then run the sound into a pretty old MacBook, so old it still has a proper line in.
- I record with an awesome (free) program called Hosting AU. This program allows me to run AU/VST plugins where I do some light EQing and live “mastering”. I attempt to dial back some frequencies that might muddy the sound I’m going for.
- I then take that audio recording, send it to my iPad where I do my best to combine it with the video.
Comments, critiques, and techniques always welcome!
Again my ultimate goal is to have consistent sound (and visuals). A second pair of eyes and ears is always a plus!

My latest session with patch #005.
A less melodic track than the original #005. What sort of music is it? I have no idea. Maybe you have some idea??
I'm now working on patch #006, exciting!

A really beautiful patch! I would call it AEmbient Lovely bass line and I really liked the little artefact like noises at the end of the track.

I really liked the little artefact like noises at the end of the track. So do I! I’m always hunting for those artifact type sounds, happy you pointed them out! AEmbiant — love it 😂

Patch 006: Out of time delay
Totally didn't hear the out of time delay at the time of recording, but it's a decent tune if you wanna give a listen

Patch 007: Ambience Without Reverb
Pushing my Starter Rack 2 even further with this melodic ambient patch... I'm finding it difficult to get the correct levels for youtube. I'm either too quiet or distorting. Any hints there are welcome!!

If you don't already, use a compressor and a limiter. You can do it when you record, or process the audio post-recording. There are a lot of free (and excellent) VSTs that you can use.

Patch 008: "Darkscape" (More Ambience Without Reverb)
My last patch on the Starter Rack 2 (as we know it)! I think I might have figured out the sound a little better after watching a few sound for youtube how-tos.

The Upgrade.
Well my synth is now filled. Placed a huge order, put it together, and was lost. I basically had to re-learn how to make music with my AEM! My advice to anyone looking to dive in: Start small, grow small.

Start small, grow slow ... definitely. But even so once you have a big system it is still often overwhelming. That's why I'm so glad that I also have the little 12U Pipsqueak system to go back to basics once in a while.

I was thinking how nice it would be to have something like that! Maybe some day

It's not exactly a making of, but at least you can see how I patched and played the song I'm also a bit late on posting this here because I basically posted the video and then immediately went on a camping trip hehe

Simple but pretty cool and relaxed. 🥸👍

Beauty through simplicity, I love it. The vocals add this otherworldly abstract narrative which reminds me somehow of burial. Very nice.
