Thought I’d create a thread to talk about the SOLINA String Machine module To kick things off, I just installed my freshly delivered SOLINA and patched something simple: http://instagr.am/p/B81xLf3oCmK The SOLINA receives clock signals to switch chords up/down and also sporadic CV, to change between two chord variants. Pitch CV is not used, so the chords stay in the key of the tuned root note. On top, a VCO plays a SEQ16 CV melody though the MS-20 filter (which sounds amazing by the way), more or less tuned to the same key of the SOLINA. Last but not least, the ALGODRONE receives a gate signal from the MM DIVDER synced to the master clock, to add some bytebeat percussion. The audio is sent through the SVFILTER and also modulates the filter’s cutoff frequency. What are you doing with your String Ensemble?

A little bit regarding the chord controls of the SOLINA, quoted from admin’s Beauty and Beast performance thread here: The note generation logic of the SOLINA needs definitely an explanation, it might not be totally intuitive. In short, the COARSE and FINE knobs set the basic pitch, the CHORD knob iterates through all chords of a major or minor scale (set by the switch) rooted at the basic pitch. The CHORD TYPE* knob controls chord inversion (in the left half) and chord modifications like raised or lowered "3" of the chord or "fifths only" when fully clockwise. * On my version of the SOLINA module, CHORD TYPE is labelled as CHORD VAR and there is a CV input for this control too. The actual chords of the maj/min scale can be stepped through with two trigger inputs CHORD+ and CHORD-.

Here’s another snippet: http://instagram.com/p/B83mlfDIhdr SOLINA through NYLE FILTER with some simple cutoff modulation by an ENV. Added three melody voices on top with regular VCOs through the other filters. The SLEW/EDGE module is a cool envelope too ... I need more ENVs The MMDIVIDER in beat mode works really well for rhythms now and when you chain the old binary DIVIDER to it, you can get some nice off-beat gates too. The fast melody is sequenced by my FELIQUENCER protoype, which is the big module in the middle. Behind the holes are trimmers, because I didn’t have pots anymore when I built it. So I have to adjust the step CVs wie a small screw driver now for the time being. It’s in random mode in this video, so it just jumps to randomly chose other step upon each trigger input.

And here's my SOLINA demo video:
While being from a totally different planet than the ALOGRDRONE, those two go surprisingly well together, by the way.

Created the wiki page for the SOLINA: wiki.aemodular.com/pmwiki.php/AeManual/SOLINAThe front panel graphic on the tangible waves website is from a prototype, so I didn't include a frontpanel image in the wiki article, as some labels seem to be different.

I'm just getting started with the Solina module.
The chord + and chord - inputs are fun. However, if I keep gating either of them, the chord eventually clamps at its max or min value. I think it would be more useful to have them continuously wrap around in either direction.

When I use my SOLINA, I can switch the 4th note on, but I switching the 4th note off doesn't work until I switch chordes Anyone else noticed that?

Same here. I think it's normal.

Yes I have noticed it too, but for me it's slightly different than what you say: neither switching it off or on has an effect until the chord knob or CV input changes. I'm not sure this is how it is intended to work. Luckily it's not a big deal, just a tad confusing.

robertlanger Is there a list of the actual chords that the SOLINA module produces at the various knob settings? I’m not good at identifying these things by ear, so a table would be helpful to dial in specific chords more quickly
