Anyone built a case for their AE? I have a bunch of white oak that would make a beautiful case. How would you mount the AE case inside a larger shell case?

Actually, you might find it easier to not mount the case inside another case. Since the AE's modules are all held in on those screw-in risers, it would be loads easier to simply drill a wood panel for those and then remount the entire AE in its own wood case just as it is in its own factory case.

I have mounted original AE cases (and lots of other gear over the years) with 3M Dual Lock, which is basically a tough Velcro that doesn’t wear out so easily. My Zoom R16 mixer is hanging on my wardrobe’s vertical wall for two years now, despite plugging jacks in and out frequently. I’ve also fastened a MicroBrute upside down to a case lid and dragged that case over cobble stone streets Yet you can still detach the gear easily and even remove the Dual Lock strips from the devices. Wizardry!

Yeah, I was thinking build a case then just use velcro to secure the original AE case inside the larger "shell" case.

Yeah, I was thinking build a case then just use velcro to secure the original AE case inside the larger "shell" case. I've always enjoyed the thought of a hinged or removable lid with enough headspace to preserve the current patch without any wire damage. A lid could hold small, flat accessories on its inside, like patch cables in Velcro loops.

Have been playing with the idea of building a wooden case for some time. Now that we're grounded for months I thought it would be a good time to start with that project, but of course all the wood shops are closed now. So I decided to make it in cardboard.
(Sorry for the low quality. Let me know if there is a better place to share pictures of your setup.) The AE cases rest on horizontal panels and on each other. When done in wood, you can do the same. My initial idea was to just screw them onto the side panels. Velcro is a very nice idea too!

Nice build.
I can see that you have strategically left space for another case at the top :-)
