OK, maybe not explicitly AE DIY, but I know a few folk use the Keystep as a sequencer and keyboard so I figure this thing I found on Thingiverse might be fun to try...

I like the look of this build because he has separated the key base from the key caps. You could possibly print the base parts on a home 3D printer then get the hexagonal cap parts printed by a paid service to get a nicer finish. If I do it, I'll do it all at home. However, I might try printing the caps in ABS then putting them in an acetone vapour bath to dissolve the 'grain' and smooth it out. I have not tried that before. I usually print with PLA because the fumes are more pleasant than other plastics and it is less temperamental than other plastics.
