Hi All i have been using my AE modular for live performance quite alot. and i am trying to improve my system and make sure i have a back up at a gig if something breaks.
i want to run 4 small AE systems all individually powered by 4 separate the power adapter.
this is because if one of them breaks on the road i still have 3 others systems that i can use.
can i still patch the cv between all four-units with no problem -- ie i don't break it.
at the moment I just have one big system with one power adaptor
but i have 2 other smaller cases and 2 master units that i am thinking about moving the units to
thankyou for you help peeps :-

You can run all 4 system from the same power adapter if you use a power splitter cable like this: www.tangiblewaves.com/store/p29/Power_Splitter_Cable.htmlThe good thing about the splitter cable is that then all the systems share a common ground which is important if you want to patch across them.

Hi Admin thanks for you reply but you miss understand my question. i dont want to run it from the same power unit as if i have a issuse with that unit my whole show will stop . i want to run it from four seperate units So i always have a back up if one or two units break (for example a drunk person spills bear on it -this has happened to me :-( not with a ae system but other set ups ) i.e. my live set up is rock solid with multiple back up.
my question is can i patch the four ae moduls togther but power them all sepratly so unit 1 has a power supply - unit 2 has a power suppy ect so patch a osloater from unity one in to a envlope or multi effect in unit 2 or 3
would this be ok really so i am quit new to modula and just dont wat to break it thank you loads

Aha, ok, I understand.
The problem with patching across the units is that they don't have a common ground if they are all on different power supplies. This would lead to all sorts of weird issues.
However there is an easy solution for this! Just connect them all together with TRS audio cables via one of the ports of of the master module, eg:
Unit 1, Master CTRL2 I/O -> Unit 2, Master CTRL 1 I/O
Unit 2, Master CTRL2 I/O -> Unit 3, Master CTRL 1 I/O
Unit 3, Master CTRL2 I/O -> Unit 4, Master CTRL 1 I/O
You need only 3 1/8" audio cables for that. The beauty of the I/O jacks and audio cables is that they actually patch into ground and thus all units will then be connected to common ground!
DISCLAIMER!!! I haven't tried this myself!! Try with two units first, then add the 3rd then the 4th.
Hope this helps.
Please post videos of your live performances, I would love to see you play!

DUDE! This is awesome! So did you use the AE Modular on that track? Really good to see the AE used in a band with singers and guitars and such

Actually, I was going to suggest the approach that I use with Gargantua: get a VERY hardcore power supply that isn't likely to be overloaded by a huge current draw, and run it all on that. If you use four different wallwarts, and you go out on a gig and one winds up going MISSING (been there, done that, it sucks), you'll be in a similar situation as you would if you popped a single supply.
Gargantua uses a Tektronix PS282...variable voltage, with something like 5 Amps of reserve. From it, I split off the two power leads for the MASTERs it has, then there's link ribbons that maintain the ground plane across the cab pairs powered by each MASTER. And that TEK supply is pretty damn hardcore; it's a scientific-grade LINEAR supply, fully-recalibrated by Valuetronics up in the Chicago burbs, cost all of $90 + shipping. That type of supply is also noiseless, pretty much; I've had it on a scope, and it exhibits NO ripple, NO noise, none of that. Dead-stable. And since Gargantua doesn't draw anywhere near its 5A capacity, it gets to loaf right along like nobody's business.
And yeah, it's quite portable...about the size of a lunchbox, even has a handle on top! Convenient AND top-notch!
