I’ve heard of the DrumKid a while ago and kind of dismissed it as yet another lo-fi drum toy. But I just realized that it uses an Arduino Nano and only very few parts around that. It’s open source too and seems well documented, so an AE Modular version in a module form wouldn’t be hard to DIY. github.com/mattybrad/drumkid/mattbradshawdesign.com/projects/drumkid/One could replace the MIDI ports with gate/CV ports maybe. Or drop the whole synth and just create a sequencer. Not sure when I’ll have time for these projects again, but I wanted to post this anyway for me to come back to and for you to try it out too maybe ;-)

Thanks for sharing this; looks quiiiite interesting...! Especially the aleatoric approach is appealing...

It actually sounds pretty darn good!
I may have to make a grains version of this. May even be cool to break out the patterns for other modules as well

It actually sounds pretty darn good! I contacted him for the possibility of licensing for an AE module... Couldn't resist... Awesome! Hope this works out! To keep things simpler, one could then maybe split the firmware into two versions. One for the sequencer and one for the drums/synth. Both could run on the same module hardware, so with two modules in the rack, one would have a more or less full DrumKid, but with more modulation possibilities.

I got mine since Friday. So for I really like it. The sequencer is nice and changes from the knobs tweaking ones (euclidean or grids). Hopefully, an Ae version with see light with CV controllable parameter. So far the only limitation is that I can only access 4 parameter per page. I think I'll be using it as master clock with the Ae modular since there is a play/stop (tried already and worked perfectly!). Since it's hack-able for CV connection I should try to see a bit more for possibilities...

Will do a proper video with the Ae modular since now I finally got the roland mixer go pro to record straight into the phone.
Definitely a nice sequencer which could be its own Ae module. So groovy and changing with only a few turn of a button. Here I was just trying to get generative sequence from only the drum triggers. I'd say the midihub is a game changer! Definitely will had the AE into this equation!

Great little machine !
I like most of the options : probability, speed & direction, wrongness, delay time & feedback... Drone & drone modulation are great !
Hope to see Drumkid in AEM format...

It actually sounds pretty darn good! I contacted him for the possibility of licensing for an AE module... Couldn't resist... My beloved DrumKid died on me yesterday during a jam. It made me think about this thread... Just wondering if the licensing has gotten some response? The sequencer part is so much fun... Just could imagine how it would be perfect in the tiny unit full system which has been teased not so long ago? 😅 If I recall right some drum, sequencer and full voice for mini box...

I was able to repair my drumkid.🥳. However, while looking for information and stuff. I found out that someone did an eurorack version: github.com/HanalogInstruments/Drum-RackKinda thinking of buying a thonk kit and somehow building it into AE format or from scratch with proper board and all. But been a total noob in such matters I afraid it's way out of my knowledge and will just end up frustrated... First will got to read a lot just to know what I'm looking for 😅
