You can find many free photos (free of use - CC or public domain) on internet, or use your own photo.
Some links :
And photos from NASA are free of use (just credit NASA).
The best way is to create your own visual (drawing, painting, photo-montage...)

I use processing to create interesting designs with creative coding

Doesn't works for all situation but I like using the Glitch app on a picture I took (many different glitch art apps do the work). Can be weird colors or destruction. Mostly the process is cool; put the picture in the app, choose an effect, check the phone...

Not that I haven't done any major work untill now, but I have some ideas or project or a little something. I like to have everything under controle and don't depend on something that I haven't done myself. So it would be a painting or drawing I've done, or maybe photos i've taken myself. For me, the visual and the audio have to be "connected" somehow, both have to evolve around a main concept.

I also like to use my own photographs wherever possible, and if I use a photograph I ensure that it's either "free to use", or is available with appropriate credit - Unsplash is a great resource.
Another real favourite source for me is screen shots from Electric sheep, and all of one part of my solo catalogue uses only those (usually effected).
To show you how diverse one half gets, and also the Electric Sheep ones, attached is a quite snapshot of two of my solo release discographies.

Take a still from one of your fishing films. There gotta be some good stuff there. Then maybe some light processing.

Take pictures of yourself, your gear and of surfaces like wood, gravel, pavement, etc. Then take a light source and shine it into your camera for lens flare effects. Take out-of-focus pictures of blinking LEDs for bokeh effects. Get any photo editor that allows you to work with layers and then just put those pictures on top of each other, cut pieces away, change blending modes (use Add or Screen for the lens flares and bokeh for example) and see what comes out

Use a lot of found objects, personal photos and custom made artwork, drawings, screen grabs. I try searching for interesting stock packaging to customise. There are a lot of online printers now doing affordable precesses like foil blocking, white ink, die cutting. I reappropriate stuff I find on ebay - I just got a batch of nice wooden boxes which I will screen print or maybe use pyrography techniques. For me, the music and the presentation are linked and because my background is fine art, sculpture and graphic design, it is also a chance to experiment and try new processes.I make short runs of the physical objects - between ten and thirty depending on cost to make. There are more example on the 'Extrovert' page here: blackhairrolledindriedbloodAll those :Zoviet*France: albums were the ones that started it for me!
