(although today is 'international drone day', I don't think that this counts as a drone!) It's on Bandcamp
I am doing a year long project (#52weeksofsound) and this week's track (week 22) is done completely with my AEModular (a 'Starter Rack 2' with the addition of SEQ16 and a DiY oscillator) One of the reasons for going with the AE (Æ?) modular was that it was electrically compatible with the wonkystuff modules that I've been working on, and with, for a couple of years — this piece uses a prototype oscillator which is a development of the dr1a 'drone synth' (https://github.com/minimism/dr1a), but somewhat more refined! All sounds and effects are from the AE modular (mono). Slight stereo widening added in Logic Pro X.

If you're modular isn't going Bleepie Boopie, you're doing it wrong. Fun little jam!

Very cool train recreation at the start! It even has the whistle It gives a nice motorik vibe to the whole track full of delayed sounds passed by on it's way.

It's another week, so another track for my #52weeksofsound project. Again it's using the AE Modular (with some post processing). It's called What With Everything Going On… (and I ran out of patch cables again!) (I'd like to be able to embed the bandcamp player directly, but I can't work out whether it is possible or not...)

Along with admin it seems AE really took the spotlight this past International Drone Day. Also, according to your bandcamp location we are Yorkshire neighbours. If/when there are future modular meet ups/chunk it would be fun to coordinate and showcase the AE systems. I brought my mini AE set up to a Feb meet up in Huddersfield but it was more of a sale/show room so it didn't get the attention it deserved.

The last few years I have been to the Leeds Modular meet at the Belgrave Music Hall, as well as SynthFest in Sheffield (where I do remember seeing an AE Modular system!). I also have a friend who is a Music Technology lecturer at Huddersfield

I missed the last Leeds Modular meet and wasn't into modular prior :0 That's great that there was an AE system at SynthFest and yes would be keen to see how many there are in Yorkshire and would could come out of a massive AE smorgasbord meet up. I'm part of the Yorkshire Sound Women Network but not much going with modular; it would be nice to maybe bridge a few interest groups and get people who are doing arduino type stuff to come and also show off the AE...maybe in a few months. In the meantime, keep making those great sounds!

#52weeksofsound Week 24 Week 24: Orchestra reduced. This past week has felt bad, even though nothing has changed (apart from the weather). * Tangible Waves AE Modular starter kit 2 * Behringer C1 mic Sounds generated in my AE Modular, live external sounds from the mic hanging out of the window again. Reverb added by the mixer, no adjustments made in Logic apart from fade in/out. I didn't even use all my patch cables this time, but I did play with using MIDI for the first time with the AE… but the track took its own turn as I started playing. Once again, pleased with how this one turned out, even though it didn't go where I was expecting it to. Down (bandcamp link)

This week's (short) track: Things I Learned TodayWeek 25: Orchestra reduced (slightly). * Tangible Waves AE Modular starter kit 2 Definitely an experiment this week. No live sounds, all purely generated from multiple patches in the AE Modular. Synth sequencing was done in Logic, percussion sequencing all within the AE Modular. I recorded each track in a single pass (so I didn't actually know what it was going to end up like until audio was recorded and patches remade). Things I learned today: Logic: - You can record a stereo track and then select whether to use the left or right track — all parts have a 'dry' channel and a 'wet' channel (through the lofi DELAY module)
- Used the pattern editor in logic for the first time — some interesting features there
- Found out how to snap automation to regions (mute/unmute the effects channel on the 'snare/clap' sound
AEModular: - Discovered how the 'repeat' function works on the TRIQ164 module. Very cool.
- Used voltage control to modify decay of envelope for the hi-hat tye sounds — using another channel of the TRIQ164 module.
- Discovered the 'rate' control of the NOISE module

That's still something I haven't really done, recorded single samples to be used in other programs. How long were your sampled sounds? Whole sequences or single sound clips?

The ‘bass line’ parts were about 4 bars long, but the rest of the parts were complete tracks as I did some real-time manipulation in the sounds (particularly the hi-hat like sounds). Once (long ago) I did make up a ‘drum’ sample set from one of my synths — I remember it being quite labourious!

#52weeksofsound continues with number 26… Once again the sounds (apart from the natural ones!) are all from my AEModular namcom.bandcamp.com/track/after-the-rainA little bit of Roedelius to this one I think?

#52weeksofsound Week 27 — a touch political? Here's the track: " We've Given Up Now" Today, parts of the UK started to open again. The only reason appears to be 'The Economy'. Covid-19 cases are not under control, the experts are urging caution and social distancing, but the politicians are pressing forward anyway. The idea for this piece started out as being some kind of phasing experiment but, as you can hear, has turned into quite something else. Three passes of two tracks: one from the AEModular, the other from the traditional microphone-out-of-the-window. First take is panned left; the second panned right; and the third is central. Lots of automated modulation of envelope times and effects mix in each track, with some human input too. I think that it sums up the current chaotic state of the UK: there's an underlying rumble of not-quite-absent menace, and a whole bunch of random shit going on left, right and centre. Meanwhile, nature persists… Stay safe everyone. #LetTheMusicPlay

#52weeksofsound Week 28: Strom (A Darkness Descends)- Tangible Waves AE Modular starter kit 2
- Added some stereo width processing in Logic
This is an almost self-generating patch, using various unsynchronised LFOs and a self-triggering envelope generator chain to manipulate the soundscape. There is also some human interaction, modification of filters and mixer to structure the whole thing. Although dark in mood, I have found myself listening to this quite a bit during the week, often just leaving the modular chuntering around in the background… there's actually something quite calming about it, even through the apparent chaos. Stay safe everyone.

And now we're at week 29 of #52weeksofsound; well into the second half of the year… Sunday, 9:03 AM
Another experiment with a largely self-generating patch (there is some manual tweaking of levels and rates going on), using various unsynchronised LFOs and a self-triggering envelope generator chain to manipulate the soundscape. To add a touch of rhythmic interest, the TRIQ164 is used through a filter. Additional external noises are provided via the now traditional e912 hanging out of the window — no pop screen this time, so a bit of low-end rumble from the wind noise.

#52weeksofsound Week 30 : Like ClockworkFor the past couple of days I've been doing a bit of electronic stuff again (preparing the next batch of Wonkystuff drone synths amongst other things) and then on Thursday went down a bit of an early-80s wavetable rabbit hole. The result is that I now have a very retro wavetable chip which will also go onto the wonkystuff site soon.
Anyway, this is mainly the sound of that oscillator being driven by the AEModular system (sequencing pitches with the SEQ16 module, and wavetable changes with the TRIQ164 module. There are also a couple of drones using the regular VCO and 2OSC/d modules. | |

Nice sounds.
What are those female pinheaders on the right side of the breadboard ?
Does they fit the AE patchwires ?

Nice sounds. What are those female pinheaders on the right side of the breadboard ? Does they fit the AE patchwires ? Hi, Thank you The headers are 7mm-high sockets from 'PreciDip', they fit the AEModular patch wires perfectly but they are only 7mm high. I bought them from RS in the UK, but they are available elsewhere I am sure: Here is the link to RSReally, the pins are a little short for reliable connection to a breadboard (they like to pop out of the board!), so I am probably going to make up an adaptor with longer pins.

#52weeksofsound week 33 More 808 + AEModular. Experimented with video recording; Verdict: the cameras get in the way. If I'm going to do this again I need cameras with narrower FOV namcom.bandcamp.com/track/watch-it

Week 35 of #52weeksofsound and it's a return to the ÆModular. This one is another epic, in the vein (maybe) of some early '70s Tangerine dream perhaps, but without the flutes. The track is here: "mm33(3)"I quite like the fatness of the opening section; just a pair of oscillators and the lofi delay (modulated by a slow LFO to give a nice chorus/phase effect). Feels like an audio palette cleanser somehow; play it loud and drown out the world…

Week 37 of #52weeksofsound and I thought I'd try a 'krell' patch… I've known about them (and generative music stuff in general) for a while, but never really explored it yet — UNTIL NOW. I found a thread on the internet which described the basic ideas behind it, so I then worked from memory to see what I could do with the standard AEModular starter-rack 2. Of course, I could have added more complexity but I ran out of patch cables No idea whether this is a typical 'krell' patch because I've never heard any. I'm going to listen to some after I upload the track Main 'melody' is in the left channel, a delayed version is in the right channel (delay time modulated by randomness), and a slower pulse/drone straight down the middle. Also ambient noises from outside via the e912. Track is here
