Hi all, Well it finally happened — I have put together my first AEModular module for sale. Available in kit form or as pre-built, it’s a 3x3 matrix mixer with buffered outputs, usable with control or audio signals. The first run is only for 15 modules, but there will be another run if demand exists of course! More info is here wonkystuff.net/about_mm33Thanks for reading! john..

I already put my order in! Super excited to get my hands on this! I ordered the DIY version so I get a bit more exercise in soldering

Looks good. does it do panning? Thank you You can definitely use it to move sounds around if it is patched in that way: For example you could feed an audio signal into input 1 then route outputs 'x' and 'y' to left and right audio, then by simultaneously turning the X level down and the Y level up, the signal would pan across left/right. … but not a 'conventional' pan with a L/R control I used it in my track from last week to move sounds (subtly) between left and right — namcom.bandcamp.com/track/mm33-3

Nice!
Does the kit involve SMD soldering or is it all TH ?

Looks good. does it do panning? well you can ‘sort of’ use it for panning, though that’s not really it’s purpose in terms of ‘mixing’ but if you use say X output as left and Y output as right you can dial in how much of the A,B or C signals go to L/R .. but you would have to sweep two knobs at the same time in opposite directions to do a left to right sweep in real time.. it’s more about signals interfering with each other creatively and feeding back on each other with added colouration.. Namke/wonkystuff mentions David Tudor , his Neural Synthesis stuff is a prime example of this principle ( but infinitely more complex ) and another good example is David Myers/Arcane Device from way back.. ah! too late Namke types quicker!

One more question, are the inputs protected, so you could connect external sources to them ?

Well they're not explicitly protected, however I would think that in the general case you'd be safe. I would also expect that if you were bringing signals in from 'outside' they would either go through the MASTER or the 4I/O modules for example, and those modules would be protected.

Oh yes of course, just toss external signals through the 4I/O

Resistance is futile (especially when it is organized in a 3x3 matrix). I ordered the kit :-)

Thanks very much to all the people who have ordered — I have some busy time building ahead. I hope to get most of the orders out by the end of the week…
I’ve just re-implemented the web shop, so I hope it still works! PayPal can now be avoided if you’d rather not use it 🙂
Please let me know if there are any problems!!

Like it...I like the look, also. It's an excellent addition to the module lineup!
BTW, the David Tudor feedback techniques probably find their best expression in his "Rainforest" series, which use feedback-based electroacoustic devices to emulate...well, a rainforest. Pretty uncanny, too; I have the Edition Block vinyl of "Rainforest IV" and it's SO convincing that I've used it in mixes and people were convinced that it was real nature sounds. Have a poke around davidtudor.org/Works/rainforest.html where you'll also find a link to....oooooOOOOOOOOOooooo DIAGRAMS!

Panning would be easy if you have some slip-on larger knobs. You just put a thick rubber band around two knobs in a figure 8 configuration.

We went shopping for rubber stamps at The Stempel Temple ... and, of course, guitar fx pedals at Dirk Witte.. to be taken apart and wired into his neural synthesis boxes..

One of my last "mentors" was Holger Czukay. We'd chat at length online on his czukay.de site's chatboard back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it was there that Holger said that I needed to get over there and study with Cholly...because, like Holger said, "none of us are getting any younger, you know". Changed my life, and I still feel very indebted to him; there's times I'd really like to run what I'm doing past him for his critical senses to seize on bits I might be missing. Rest In Peace, you noisy, crazy mo'fo...we miss ya!

MoMA had a small but beautiful exhibition of his Rainforest Variation. Was fortunate enough to be in town and make it on the last day. Was so nice to see how many people of all ages engaging with the sounds and shapes! www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/5077Attachments:

For context, I've successfully soldered several entry DIY kits at this point (e.g. Bastle Kastle/Tea-Kick, MTM mikrophonie) but royally screwed up a Dreadbox Antiphon which has made me allergic to DIY for a while now. Do you think this kit is safe treading?!

Do you think this kit is safe treading?! namke can probably chime in... but i would say it comes under the ‘fairly easy’ category, 9 potentiometers, a good number of resistors ( all the same so no way to mix them up, two 8 pin headers and one IC. if you’ve done a Kastle then yr ok, this is nowhere near as small or cramped as that tiny board. that saying, mr Wonkystuffs prebuilds are solid.. so absolutely worth the extra £15... which is what i went for in the end.
