Hello all, I’m very happy to announce that the preparations for the world’s first label for promoting AE Modular sounds and artists are now in full swing and you are all invited to play your part in this (pun intended  ). The label is called Æther Waves and will be hosted at Bandcamp (url to be disclosed later) and managed by myself and spacedog with the help of NightMachines. The mission is to assemble a set of songs made by YOU which feature the AE Modular synth. This collection of songs will be published on “Æther Waves Vol. 1” on the Bandcamp page of the label. Any revenue collected from sales will be donated to the charity that robertlanger suggested, which is sea-watch.org, who help those that are at risk of drowning while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to escape war or persecution in their home countries. PLEASE send us YOUR music! If you would like to have a spot on this album, then please send us your music. There are only a few rules that apply: - Submissions end on 20/08/2019, 8pm GMT
- Please send a PM to spacedog and admin with a download link to an audio file, not a Youtube or other web embedded media. Please let us know if this is a problem for you and we will help you find a solution!
- For best quality, a wav file is preferred, don’t worry about the precise parameters, we should be able to handle anything.
- We would like each submission to be limited to 10 minutes, please.
- All sounds in your track should be made predominantly with the AE Modular, however other synths, samplers and drum machines are accepted as backdrop or embellishments. Also, external effects are allowed, although do try to use effects from your modular if you have them.
- We would prefer tracks that are new and previously unreleased .. made just for this album, but if you really love one of your existing tracks and want us to include this, we may be persuaded to include that anyway!
- You agree that your track would be released under the following license: CC BY NC SA license (attribution to artist, non commercial, not more restrictive re-licensing), more information here: creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/
Please send us the following information in the PM together with the link to the track: - The title of the track
- The length of the track in mm:ss format
- Your name or artist name for this track
- Any relevant information about the track that you would like to accompany it
- A link to your homepage which we could include in any promotional material or news flashes
- A link to your photo or logo or other artwork that you would like to have included with your track in any promotional material or posts
After all submissions have been received, spacedog will go about mastering them all to a standard and create the Bandcamp page and Album. I will start promoting the album on various channels. Our planned release date for the album is the 30th of August! (but don’t hold us to it, it depends on so many factors and at least I am doing this for the first time!) Please post any questions or suggestions below this post and again .. we are looking forward to receiving and hearing your tracks! |

Ah! Love the idea very much! Just my opinion, but isn't the date a bit short? I mean I'd like very much to do something for that album but I'm still waiting my order, including the MULTIFX who might add a great deal of sound to the track. Anyway, I'll work on something, it's a very good idea

I think three weeks is okay to get the ball rolling. I’m sure there will be more compilations for people who miss the deadline. But I guess we’ll see how many songs are submitted by August 20th. |

Don't get me wrong, 3 weeks is ok, But was thinking that there are lot of people who are waiting for their system to arrive We'll see how it goes.

In my experience, the farther away a deadline the less actually gets done to achieve it; a tight deadline focuses the mind tremendously! |

Finally someone who uses less space for his music gear than me. I thought I don't have enough. I have the opposite problem; I managed fine with 2 synths and a tape recorder for years (decades in fact); now I have a big studio with lots gear, the problem is time.... I've booked a day off work so I can spend some time in the studio next week, hope to get something together for the compilation project, pressure is on! |

In my experience, the farther away a deadline the less actually gets done to achieve it; a tight deadline focuses the mind tremendously! Good thinking... maybe we should move the deadline to 22.00 GMT tonight...? Seriously, I always work better when the deadline is tight, but achievable. I have just found myself with a few hours "me time" this weekend, so I now have no excuse for not sitting and experimenting with my modular - I just have to grab a cold drink and press that record button before I start. |

That's such a great idea! Huge respect and love for donation idea, robertlanger. Wish I could have at least one day off just to sit with my AE modular and record something, but perhaps will have to wait for the autumn/winter time.. Wishing the best of success for this project! Looking forward to hear the compilation and do some donation. |

Well, I can put my feet up now that I've sorted my track for the compilation. Of course, I've done it too soon, so I'll probably end up doing another one and then have to choose. This one is 100% AE Modular and that was a good challenge.
So, come on, get those tracks in. I am speaking from a personal viewpoint, of course, so that I'm not too backend loaded on the mastering
It's all for a worthy cause and it will be a lovely boost for robertlanger to hear us all having fun and doing so much with the outcome of his vision. |

Well done spacedog. Mines done and in too. Been on a few electronic label compilations in the past and it always really helps to use the project theme as an inspiration. Get your levels right and do it all in one sitting. Once its in delete it locally so you don't listen to it over and over and end up sending in other tracks with just a louder hihat or something. I'm really looking forward to hearing everyone elses tracks on here,

Well, usually I get about 0.0001dB, with everything compressed and EQ'ed to Hell and back, so anything is useful Being vaguely serious, there are three basic entry points here: - I appreciate that a few people making these reccordings are going to be going straight to a portable recording device and will have little control over their final sound and limited experience (yet), so I'm not too fussy, just avoid distortion.
- Of course, if you do have a level of control over what you're doing the simple advice is stay away from the red and keep in the green... the odd bit of yellow is OK, but don't sweat it.
- For the really serious... leave me at least 3dB preferably 6dB (yes, really)... avoid compression and too much EQ on the final mix and I will do the rest
The simple advice is just follow whichever of these points makes the most sense to you... and I will sort it out. If you want some recording advice, just PM me I am always happy to help. It can be tricky to capture synths as they have by their very nature a large dynamic range, i.e. they can move from a whisper to a scream, and very quickly. |

Come and join in the fun, get working on something for the album, it doesn't have to be a polished masterwork and I am happy to add some fairy dust for you, so don't worry... unless you have your own supply, of course, in which case apply as much as you like |
